Enjoying that Milk

I need to color this. D: But I can't.
I haven't got adobe or some other good program besides GIMP, and the only way I know how to color with layers on GIMP is 'Color to Alpha', thus adding on other labeled layers for coloring. It's all transparent when I do that, and the lineart is too soft and see-through.

Solutions and suggestions welcome!
