Weight

Breathe
in
Breathe
out
You are
warm against me
They don't tell you about this
in the movies
Boy meets girl leads to happily ever after
They don't tell you about
being afraid
About being petty and selfish and all those human emotions that get mixed up together
when you can't help yourself
And you want to say I would do anything for you
And part of you knows you probably would
But
you've never been tested
and you hope you never will be
They don't tell you about
wanting to become a better person
because now there's someone that makes you care
makes you want to change patterns
Not because they want you to
but because they deserve better
They don't tell you about
frustration
of accepting a different point of view
compromise
because there's always compromise
trust
The trust of believing in someone strongly enough to say
yes
this is who I want to be with as long as we both shall live

This is what they haven't told me
They haven't told me
How to lie on a bed, laced in someone's arms, and talk about what happens after death
How to finally beat his spirits with an artifact deck
How to shake with sobs because you're not sure you can stop needing
How to sing along to the radio together, one slightly more off-key
How to hold a phone in your hand, afraid that he didn't get home safe
How to be mistaken for lesbians
How to sleep with someone else breathing beside you
(it's harder than you'd think)
How to accept
wholeheartedly
another human being
exactly as they are
and how to struggle with not quite making it sometimes
How to know
that you can talk about anything
even when you don't want to
How to take someone else's life
and wind it around your own
to both of your satisfactions

They show you surface
They show you endings
They show you
wisps of smoke
of mist
They don't show you life as we know it
They don't show you
how the weight of another's heart feels
in your hands

Wasn't sure whether or not I really wanted to submit this. I can't say for sure if it's something other people can gain something from, or just my own personal rantings.

I was thinking about how lots of people have skewed ideas of love, and this was the result.

And it's been awhile since I submitted anything. :D
