A Morlich momma and a babyyyyyyy. Remember these guys? They live on the Springer homeworld in Stellarmass. They hunt by cornering their prey and just....stepping on them

. I wanted to draw this horribly creepy alien animal all >8V and just have the baby be all

. Morlichs actually make tender mums.
I haven't done high contrast stuff in a while and it shows! I need to practice moar lol.
I had no idea wtf to do with the background so I used scribbles. A moment of silence for the .005 micron that sacrificed itself for all the fine details.
Soooo all you froods who do alot of high contrast stuff, what did I mess up that I can improve upon? Ilu guysssssss.

Do you have any idea of how jealous I am of your line? Just... ahhhhh! Anyway, since you asked for a critique I had to rack my brain for something.
Generally when I think high-contrast I picture solid areas of black with very little, if any, shading. You have quite a bit of hatching and cross-hatching which implies gradations in value and reduces the amount of contrast. The other factor is that you surround your characters with lines. In very high contrast images, you should aim to create 'visual closure' by implying form through key shapes that continue even through negative space. Usually these shapes represent any area that is not directly hit by light and even cast shadows and negative space implies lights and highlights. You can try squinting at an object and 'shapeweld' dark values into a single object and light values into a single object for practice. Sometimes you might still want more than two values but the idea is to avoid contour lines and shading and imply form and direction of large areas through single values.
Now that that's done I still have to say this is beautiful and I want to steal your powers! Nomnomnomn POWERS!

This looks like something Koishii Kitty would do. Hmm...
I think you did alright for high contrast. But I am no expert at these ink drawings nor am I educated in art *failed college drawing class*. I would be curious to see this again with more/different subjects.
