Lyrics - Hollywood Girl (Of Post-Teens and Silver Screens)

She's beautiful, and talented
Witty and a little sarcastic
Can't wait to hear the next thing that she'll say
With dreams of grandeur out in Hollywood
This survey says I really should
Not let this one ever get away

She's oh so kind, and genuine
Yeah, she's the girl with the golden grin
Do you think she enjoys all of this flattery?
Gotta strum these strings, gotta sing these rhymes
Chips are down, "no guts no glory" time
Dear God, I hope that this is meant to be

CHORUS
And this movie that we're shooting is a romantic comedy
So can we please have some quiet on the set?
Lights, camera, action! Someone repeat my lines to me
I'm so nervous that I think I might forget
'Cus the boy who meets girl is just one of those stories
That damn near everyone can relate to
And lets just pretend that the boy here is me
And hypothetically, the girl is you

He likes punk rock, and skater shoes
He's funny and he draws cartoons
Say hello to this picture's leading fool
All he wants is to make comic books
Write songs with those lessons he never took
'Cus he was too busy trying to make it through art school

He's the nice guy who never finished first
And his luck always goes from bad to worse
Especially when it comes to wooing the ladies
In Act One he's hardly had a date
But he'll be charming by scene twenty-eight
How are you liking all these film analogies?

CHORUS

It's a tale of post-teens and of silver screens
Of broken hearts and guitar strings
And the road ahead for two twenty-somethings
He'll treat her like the queen of queens
But when the big break comes for his main squeeze
She leaves Chicagoland for sunny Orange County

He drives until his car breaks down
Then hitch hikes his way from town to town
Hellbent on making it out to Cali-forni-ee
He's just gotta see his brunette bombshell
Her first love always was the City of Angels
And he arrives just in time to stop the kissing scene

BRIDGE (alternate chorus, slower)
The lights turn on as the credits fade away
So a blank screen is the only thing we see
Lots of other things I wanted to say
But you'll have to wait for the extended DVD
I pluck up my courage, fall back to reality
And try to ignore the floor-gum stuck to my shoe
That's it for make believe, the boy was really me
And if you hadn't guessed, the girl is you...

(build back up into) CHORUS

This is a song I started writing my junior year of college, while I was crushing really hard on a girl I knew. I wrote the first two verses and the chorus while I was still plucking up the courage to ask her out, and the last verse, bridge, and fine-tuning of the overall song after I was brilliantly shot down. I liked what I had written so far, regardless, and wanted to finish the song anyway. Given that nothing ever developed in real life, you can take the characters in the song as kind of caricatures of me and the girl in question.

The song is meant to be pop-punk, along the lines of Relient K or Bowling for Soup. I actually have tabs for a bit of the chorus, but nothing else yet.
