Character Reference Sheet 3 - Tarak

TARAK

Tarak is Ilo's older brother. He never played a big role in the original story, but I thought that since I actually created a personality and a history for him BEFORE I wrote the story and I did mention him in there, I should include him here.

Tarak never played an active role in the story at all. In fact he died before the story even and is only mentioned in one of Ilo's memories.

Tarak and Ilo may seem like the perfect siblings, but the fact is he and Ilo never really got along before the apocolypse. In fact, they rarely even spoke to one another. This is probably due to their greatly differing interests and personalities. Tarak was more interested in cars and sports. Whereas Ilo, while an active (and fairly talented) member of the baseball team, was more academic in nature.

However after the apocolypse, the two of them were the only family that the other had. As such they formed a very strong bond.

Tarak formed a band of survivors with any and all that would join. He was the obvious choice for a leader. One day, after deciding that Tarak's influence was becoming too strong, a corporate leader took Ilo hostage, used him as bait and had Tarak killed.

Tarak will likely have a bigger, if not main role if I end up writing a spin-off story to 'Only a Smile'. I may even end up turning it into a comic, if I don't slack off too much.

Small piece of trivia - Tarak is a name of Indian origin, meaning protector.

To start off with, I will submit the characters for the first real story I ever wrote called 'Only a Smile'.

'Only a Smile' was written as a piece of assessment for a university course I took in creative writing.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, this particular story is about a chance meeting between two young men, named Ilo and Hadrian.

Ilo and Hadrian were two characters I had been playing around with for a while before I wrote 'Only a Smile', however it wasn't until I was pushed to write the story that the characters really took life.

Nowadays I have quite the fondness for these two and often go back to them for inspiration.

I have been toying with the idea of writing a side story (or two) for these characters for a while, but have yet to sit down and brainstorm ideas. I honestly don't believe I will ever write a story as special to me as this one has become, some may come close though. I think that I would one day like to write about the events leading up to the apocalypse.
