Character Reference Sheet 2 - Ilo

ILO

Ilo is a very kind and honest young man, who isn't afraid to speak his mind. He is 17 years old.

Ilo has a fairly average look about him preferring to wear denim shorts and T-shirts. However he is also never without his brother's old bomber jacket. He has light blue, straight mid-length hair and striking deep blue, almost purple eyes.

Ilo was a normal high school student before the apocolypse took place. He got decent grades, he was a member of the baseball team, with a good chance of gaining entry into a good university. Ilo dreamt of one day becoming a lawyer.

After the apocolypse chaos reigned. Ilo joined a band of survivors, which was formed by his brother and the group helped them to get through each day. After his brother's death Ilo left the gang and tried to make do on his own.

Ilo is at first very weary of Hadrian, but soon comes to see him as a companion. While he won't admit it out loud he is rather grateful for another human's presence.


Small piece of Trivia - Ilo is a name meaning light or sunshine. It's of African origin.
- Before 'only a smile' was written Ilo was a letcherous teenager.

To start off with, I will submit the characters for the first real story I ever wrote called 'Only a Smile'.

'Only a Smile' was written as a piece of assessment for a university course I took in creative writing.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, this particular story is about a chance meeting between two young men, named Ilo and Hadrian.

Ilo and Hadrian were two characters I had been playing around with for a while before I wrote 'Only a Smile', however it wasn't until I was pushed to write the story that the characters really took life.

Nowadays I have quite the fondness for these two and often go back to them for inspiration.

I have been toying with the idea of writing a side story (or two) for these characters for a while, but have yet to sit down and brainstorm ideas. I honestly don't believe I will ever write a story as special to me as this one has become, some may come close though. I think that I would one day like to write about the events leading up to the apocalypse.
