My character design teacher wanted us to pick a series in which the characters didn't have a precise graphic design and make a design for six of them according to their personality traits (and eventually their physical description if any)
Forgive me for any inaccuracies as I had to do my research and designs in a rather limited amount of time. Also forgive me if I spoiled the charm of the book or anything like that by giving it graphic designs
Billy Pilgrim is the main character. He was an American soldier during WWII. He was young, had glasses, a beard, balding hair, was dressed all wrong and didn't carry weapons. He was not combative. In fact, he was very weak. He wasn't concerned with war or even his own life and was a pretty troubled, distressed and cowardly person. Everybody in the army hated him as he did not fight nor protect himself. Later he would become senile and imagine that extra-terrestrials gave him the power to travel at any point in time, whereas he really just has hallucinatory flashbacks of moments of his life from right before his death.
Edgar Derby had nearly no physical description except for the fact that he had a beard and was old. He pulled some wires to get into the army at his age. The narration keeps reminding us of the way he's going to die (it's not a spoiler) and although he is wise and respected, he never gets the promotion he hopes for.
Roland Weary is another WWII American soldier. He's big, fat and gross. He's very combative, carries all his weapons and items (and his helmet over his eyes). He's a very aggressive and frustrated person because nobody likes him. He picks weak, rejected people as his friends so that he can beat them around constantly.
Eliot Rosewater is mentally retarded. He is a hospital patient for psychiatric problems. He is passionate, along with Billy, about Kilgore Trout's science fiction books. He is not very self-aware, just enough to fake being overly nice with people to be able to socialize.
Paul Lazarro is a twisted, sadistic WWII American soldier. Absolutely not concerned with the purpose of the war, he is very much about vengeance, and makes it clear to everybody to not mess with him (or his friend Roland Weary) if they don't want to die or suffer horribly.
Kilgore Trout is a forgotten science fiction writer. His books are very badly written, but every one of them seems to pull strangely interesting esoteric and philosophical questions. He's a violent and controlling man, and will manipulate children or women to get his way. His only two fans are Billy and Eliot.

I really enjoy Edgar and Elliot's designs

They look kind of samey, though I can't put my finger on why.
