Attraction chapter 1

I don’t know whether to call our meeting a coincidence or fate. Either way it wasn’t the typical scenario of how two young people meet. All I know is he changed my life. For better or worse I’ll never know.
I was just leaving work taking the same rout I normally did. I passed the fish market, clothes store, and Martians Pizza place; the food kind of sucked. On this rout, though, I had to go through an obviously unfriendly neighborhood. I’d only been assaulted a few times; all those times ending with the assailant wishing they were never born, but other than that I had no problem. That was until the one evening where I heard a man scream. I stopped on the sidewalk; clutching my purse close to my chest. I waited a few more moments, and a second scream pierced the air. Looking around it was clear that no one else was going to go see what was wrong, so I thought I would. I hurried down the alley way; my shoes clomping loudly. My body froze when I saw the middle age man dragged away into a dark back street. There wasn’t another scream; so I was pretty sure what ever happened to him either ended or he was killed. I took a few more steps forward; just enough so I could peek down the back road and see what was happening. To my surprise there seemed to be a young man kneeling down next to the body; his fingers pressed against his neck as if to check his pulse.
“Is he alright?” I inquired, “There’s a lot of blood,” The man’s head shot up once he noticed I was there. The sickest most disgusting smile stretched across his face as he stood up.
“What’s a little girl like you doing around here at this time of night?” He asked me, his eyes almost seeming to glow under his messy white hair. It was only then I noticed the stained red knife in his other hand, and I proceeded to chuckle. I wasn’t laughing because he killed the guy, but because I hadn’t put together the obvious evidence that he was the killer. While this mugger made his way towards me; I noticed that the dead man was wearing a very expensive watch. I slipped past the killer and knelt down next to the body; unhooking his gold wrist wear. I stuffed the watch in my purse and stood back up to meet the eyes of a very confused man.
“What?” I snapped, “He’s already dead, he’s not going to need it,” The man dropped his knife and broke into a fit of laughter. Both arms wrapped around his middle as he bent over in a hysterical fit. I could tell this wasn’t your everyday mugger; this was a psychopath. Something about his laughter though made me want to laugh too; but I couldn’t. That would be immoral right? I scoffed to myself; any less immoral then taking a watch off a dead man’s body?
“You better get home,” The man suggested, “there are a lot of mean men around here that would just love to take ya,” Was he being serious? I couldn’t tell. Either way I decided I should leave, and kept my eyes on him while backing out of the alley. I took one more glance back to see him waving.
“bah-bye now,” He chimed before snatching the body up by its leg and dragging it into the darkness.
So here I am now; lying in bed debating whether or not to call the police. I could easily blame the stolen watch on that man; so that wasn’t an issue. The problem I was facing was did I really want to put in all that effort for someone who was already dead? I mean if the guy kidnapped him I guess I would call, but what’s the point if he’s already dead? A yawn escaped my lips and I figured it was time for me to sleep. While my eyes were closing the last image in my mind was that killer.
