Man against Beast

Man against Beast

Somewhere beneath the broken moon beams
A feral cat opens its mouth and screams

The vampires seep from the wounds of the Earth
Hell is ready as it starts to give birth

Come morning the sun won’t grace the sky
And those who’ll live are those willing to die

“It’s man against beast
(If there’s a difference at least)
And here we have the greatest feast”

The sky glows red and the drums start us off
“It’s a dance for the dead” someone shouts with a cough

The beat’s from the bones and the cymbal a skull
And the whole great army falls into a lull

By a curse and a whisper a knife goes slashing
With a scream and a whimper a child goes dashing

And the world falls to war in one single night
While the vampires sing to their gleeful delight:

“It’s man against beast
(If there’s a difference at least)
And here we have the greatest feast”

When the noise is all over and the land one great stain
A vampire picks his teeth with a human remain

And there’s a purr in his voice as he says with glee
“Has there ever been such a killing spree?”

Then the sky opened up and the rain all comes down
Across his face spread a discontent frown

So he set off walking across the mud
Sloshing through the cooling blood

His ears sense a nearly lifeless sound
And his eyes roam across the ground

There’s a human with eyes faint and dull
Without a thought he crushes their skull

“It’s man against beast
(If there’s a difference at least)
And here we have the greatest feast”.

I consider this one of the best poems I've written in a long time. Originally it shouldn't been submitted on the 1st, but it was up for debate as part of my contribution to a collab with a friend. But I wrote something better for that and this has been editted and re-editted continuously over the past few days and now it's finally done. I hope you enjoy it even if it's so long.
