Another relatively new character introduced in the "Project Kinsuji" world. Replacing "Sparky," the ROB-SP of the team's starship, is this little device affectionately named "qBALL."
qBALL is known as a "GAIAbot." The GAIA is said to be an anagram of "Gyroscopic Artificial Intelligence Adaptor." It is called an "adaptor" because while it wields the artificial intelligence in this shell, it does other duties on the ship by adapting itself to other devices scattered about the ship, like a "repair frame" that enables it to maintain the ship and the vehicles on board, or a "data frame" that functions as the central computer and database of information.
When it is not in any of the adaptor frames, it moves around in its simple spherical form, which sports four sets of small wheels and a single motorized wheel that extends to a bigger radius and makes it move. When moving swiftly, the smaller wheels are hidden in the shell and the central big wheel takes over the mobility, leaning to turn. The body appears stationary while in motion. Its ability to keep its balance while moving around is because of the gyrospcope built inside, similar to the "segway."
qBALL is about the size of a basketball, but should not be treated as such; not only does the GAIAbot find it rude, but it is rather fragile since its frame isn't made to endure hard impacts. It is made to work with certain models of starships, and is configured to accept only the commands of selected people. Its intelligence is able to give it normal speech, but still bears a somewhat mechanical phraseology. By itself, it can also display holographic prompts that can display status reports, messages, and alerts received via wireless signals throughout the ship.
GAIAbots and the ship arrays made for them are all exclusively produced and distributed by Barker Technologies. They are currenly only used by industrial and military facilities.
