This month I got rantingmule's character, the Gallowspony for Equine Exchange on LJ.

Another character that I've always wanted to draw - yay, I've had two in a row. The theme suggested had to do with reading some of Snorri Sturulsson's writings...

So, the question became, how does a blind pony read a book?

I puzzled this for a bit - and that's when I realized that he could use a good storyteller to help him. So, it is the Ravens of Odin, Hugin and Munin, (Thought and Memory) who are relaying the tale, while the Gallowspony listens.

(And just because someone will ask me what it says...)

"Then Allfather took Night, and Day her son, and gave to them two horses and two chariots, and sent them up into the heavens, to ride round about the earth every two half-days. Night rides before with the horse named Frosty-Mane, and on each morning he bedews the earth with the foam from his bit. The horse that Day has is called Sheen-Mane, and he illumines all the air and the earth from his mane."

This was truly a fun one to do... I've always thought this fellow was a fantastic character. :)

Just awesome work! The anatomy is just well done, the coloration is just beautiful and I do think the lettering fits nicely into the picture instead of seeming out of place.
