and I do a little trade to celebrate our birthdays (which are a mere three days apart.) He hit on the swell idea that this year we'd draw fanart for each other's favorite movies.
Jeff's favorite film is 1968's experimental animated Beatles adventure,
Yellow Submarine.
This painting is after the
original illustration by (I assume.) Heinz Edelman for Apple Records, for the soundtrack of the film. Edelman was the production designer for the film, so...if he didn't actually draw the illustration he at least directed it. (Whee!)
Awwwwww, I had so much fun painting this...I haven't had time to do any watercolor (My beloved!) in the past few weeks, so this was a very welcome treat. Like candy.

Yes, it was indeed Hans Eidelmann who did the original character designs.
It was actually that the production-crew had written a script and all, but they didn't want to "Disney-fy" the Beatles. One day, one of the fellows (I forget which, I think it was the fellow who did the voice of John) found some of Eidelmann's illustrations in a magazine, then contacted him.
AND TO THINK I LEARNED IT ALL FROM WATCHING THE CREW-COMMENTARY!
