TLOZ: RTT: Chapter 2: The Preparation

With Link's re-discovery of Termina on his mind, he quickly rushed back to Kokiri Forest to tell his closest friend, Saria. "Link, you're crazy!" Saria said, smiling at him. "There's no such world as 'Termina.'" Link stared at her in amazement. Saria had always believed everything Link told her, except for now. Link's face went from amazement to anger. "You wanna bet there's no Termina?! You know those masks I have in my house? I got those while SAVING that world, Saria!" Saria sighed and put her hands on Link's shoulders. "If there IS a such thing as a 'Termina,' then I would love to see it." Link smiled and asked her to follow him outside of the Forest. Saria stood back for a second. "You know the Kokiri can't leave the forest! It's dangerous!" Link slapped his hand against his face. "Come with me. I'll get you out, and you won't be noticed." Link and Saria went to the first room on the left of the Lost Woods. When they got there, they saw a Skull Kid prancing on top of a stump, playing a flute.

"Umm...Skull Kid?" Saria looked up at the child with a smile. "Oh, Saria! Here to play a duet?" The Skull Kid noticed Link. "Or how about a Triplet? The more the merrier!" Link and Saria smiled, then Link looked up at the Skull Kid. "Hey, we need this room for about two minutes. Could you please...go away? We'll let you know when we're done." The Skull Kid jumped down from the stump and walked over to the two. With his hands by his sides, he brought one arm up to his chest and took a bow. "I trust your friend, Saria. I will be back when you say the word." With that, he vanished. Link turned to Saria, who was already facing him. Link slowly pulled out the sad-eyed Deku Mask and the happy, round-faced Goron Mask. "These masks transform me, Saria." Link said with all seriousness. "I need you to put one on. I'll put the other on." Saria slowly picked up the sad-eyed Deku Mask and was about to put it on, when Link quickly grabbed her arm and asked her to try and not scream. Saria looked confused, and slowly put the Mask to her face. She felt the soul quickly taking over her body, trying to satisfy Link by not screaming, but ended up screaming anyways.

The transformation was a success. She looked up at Link, and asked if she looked good. Link smiled and picked her up. "You look fine, Saria. You'll always be beautiful to me." Link put her down and put the Goron Mask on. "Now just follow my lead, Saria. Everything will be fine." Link picked her up, and began to walk out of the room. Saria screamed out that the Skull Kid could return, almost forgetting she would. The two left the Lost Woods, and are back in Kokiri Forest. Goron Link is carrying Deku Saria twoards the exit. The Kokiri child at the exit blocked them. "Who are you, and why are you leaving the Forest with a Deku?" Goron Link looked down at the puny Kokiri child. "I am a visiting Goron. My name is Darmani, and this is my pet Deku. We got lost in the Woods, and are returning to the City of Gorons." Goron Link glared at the Kokiri child and kneeled down. "Is that a problem?" The Kokiri shivered and walked to the side. "N-no, not at all, Mr. Darmani. Go ahead!" Link and Saria went straight past the guard, across the bridge, and into Hyrule Field. Link took the Mask off, and watched Saria take hers off. "Welcome to the land outside the forest, Saria. This is probably the biggest part of Hyrule - the main Field." Link put his arm around Saria and the two walked up to Lon Lon Ranch.

In Lon Lon Ranch, it seemed like everyone's problems went away. Everyone was relaxed, with little worry, as if the air in the area had soothing powers. The ranch owner, Talon, was usually napping in the main building, or tending to the animals in the Stable helping Ingo, someone hired to help work on the farm. Talon's daughter, Malon, took a very quick interest in the horses, so she stands in the middle of the racetrack singing her song, which also happens to be the song to call Epona. Link and Saria walk forward, twoards the racetrack. Malon can be heard singing at the gate. "That's Malon. She watches over the horses while they're out in the day, and usually keeps them calm with her song. She's the reason we came here. Here, pull out your Ocarina. When I bow my head we start playing these notes." Link quickly taught her Epona's Song. The two walked up behind Malon, and, when she started the song over, Link bowed his head. Two ocarinas and one voice together on the same song threw Malon off, and she turned around to see Link and Saria. "Oh, Link! I didn't expect to see you back at the ranch so soon!" Malon hugged Link. "First of all, Malon, this is Saria. Saria, Malon. I'm here for a request. I need--"

"You need to borrow Epona again? I told you before, Link. She's grown a fonding of you. All you need to do is play my Song here in the Ranch, and you can use her!" Malon turned her attention to Saria, and put her hand out. "Hi, it's nice to meet you! Are you also a fairy from the forest?" Saria giggled, and placed her hand in Malon's, accepting the greeting. "Yes, I am also from the Forest. If you want to sometime, come on by and ask for me. I'll be more than happy to show you around!" Link called Epona, and a small, orange horse ran over to Link. "Saria, this is Epona. Do you need help getting on?" Link watched Saria hop on Epona as if she's done it before. "No, I think I'll be okay." Link hops on and the two ride out of Lon Lon Ranch.

Back in Hyrule Field, Link and Saria continue on their preparations for their trip to Termina, by simply returning to Kokiri Forest. As Link, Saria and Epona enter the Forest, Link realizes that he can't get Epona up the wall! Link and Saria sat at the edge for a while, trying to figure out how. Saria quickly thought of something. "Link, you know the melody to warp to my sacred place, right?" Link turned to look at her. "The Minuet of Forest? Yeah!" Link paused for a second. "Wait. If we play that while on Epona, we can get into the forest, take her through, and get her to the right area, right?" Saria smiled at Link and pulled out her Ocarina. "Ready?"

"Ready." At that moment, the two played the Minuet of Forest in perfect harmony. The three soon quickly warped to the Sacred Forest Meadow. "It worked!" Link and Saria shouted at the same time. Link took a few steps forward and heard the spitting noise of a Mad Scrub. "Ugh, I forgot about those. I'll take care of 'em." With that, Link walked forward with the Goron Mask in hand. A few seconds later, a quake, then another, and another, and another. Saria slowly rode Epona forward, directing her where to go. Link quickly made it back to Saria and Epona, who was getting nervous. "It's okay, girl. You're doing great. I won't let anything happen to you. Saria will take care of you." Link was calmly saying to the horse. They made it out of the Meadow, back into the Maze. Link started walking forward, knowing it would get the three out of the Woods in no time. As they made it out of the Woods back into Kokiri Forest, Link hopped back on Epona, and re-entered the Lost Woods, on their way (finally) to the world of Termina.
