This is Aleana, a werefish. Those things on the sides of her tail, those are gills. ^^ They open when she's happy, but when she's mad, they go tight against her sides. Right now she's pretty happy. Oops, wait, I forgot to draw them opened when I changed her expression. She started out angry.
Her face isn't supposed to be quite human, in case you were wondering. She has no nose, and a very strange mouth. Her eyes are set weirdly too. All of this was done in order to make her seem more than just human, but still have her face reminiscent of a human's.
Yes, her tail is sideways. Like a fish. She's a werefish, not a mermaid, as I think I've mentioned, and this is one of the reasons why. Having fins instead of arms probably helps further that distinction as well.
Sorry I haven't updated in forever. My scanner crapped out on me. Just got it working again. So there's five more after this! And many more to come!
