This beautifully articulated skeleton of a horned equine from early Eocene epoch deposits is a find unparalleled in the history of paleontology. Some call this the fabled “unicorn” thought to be recently extinct in the late Cenozoic Era. It’s modern day equine attributes, cervid cloven hoofed digits and narwhal type spiral horn have some calling it a hoax or fake. Modern carbon dating techniques do verify it’s age however at nearly 50 million years old. The cave painting found near the fossil is thought to date from the last glacial period.
