Since now I am in “Ceramics II” (really there is no such thing yet at my school, I’m doing more of an independent study.) I get to do a lot of individual projects. So for my first one I plan on making this figure of Hellboy. I may need to adjust some things, like his fist and do some other views before I start. This won’t be easy. I don’t even know where to start building him. I thought the chest would be the best area to start and I thought of using an armature technique (using newspaper as a base and building on to that) but that means I will have to have a hole somewhere to let the air out when it goes in the kiln or he will explode in to many, many tiny clay shards…like a grenade. I know I will use slabs for his coat but I have to be careful not to trap air there either. The rest will be just hand built. So in conclusion from all that chaos, if Hellboy makes it through leather hard, bone dry and bisque stages, it will be a miracle.
Btw my art teacher treats me like a clay prodigy so maybe she will help me…
