A Tiny Green Snake

A Tiny Green Snake

i once passed a lake
surrounded by grass
as tiny green snake
decided to pass

i walked to the edge
and stood on a stone
looked over the ledge
at water that shone

and what i saw there
was sadness and hate
in my mighty glare
was what i create

i looked away fast
and looked at that lake
this problem was vast
and all i could take

then i turned around
and looked just once more
at what i had found
was my inner war

i knew death and pain
like siblings forgot
i didn't feel sane
more lost and distraught

preparing to jump
and end this mistake
i saw on the ground
that tiny green snake

it looked up at me
and i looked at it
i still cannot see
how it made me sit

i pondered awhile
snake slithered away
and once a real smile
across me did stray
