Chapter 1
__________________________________________

How was I supposed to know? How did I even get into this mess?

I didn’t mean to become a member of the night. I didn’t mean to have fangs. I didn’t mean to become friends with the new kids in school. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.

I really wanted this to be dream. No, it was a nightmare, much worse than a dream.

This horrible nightmare started when the new kids came to town. They were nice, but creepy. They all wore dark colors, never any lights. They were avoided at school, and I was going to do that as well, if they weren’t my new neighbors.

The new kids weren’t part of a big family. They were twins, a boy and a girl. The girl’s name was Amy, and the boy’s name was Richard. They both had black hair, except Amy’s hair was long with purple streaks, and Richard’s hair was short.

My mom had decided to introduce them to me even though I had avoided them all day at school. I had known that they were my new neighbors, but I didn’t want to get involved with the new kids.

New kids always brought trouble.

In our school, if you hang out with any new kids in their first week you are permanently a loser. Take it from one of my old friends.

Sure, I should’ve helped my friend when she was shunned, but I didn’t want to get shunned as well.

Ever since my old friend had been shunned from society, she had been miserable. You could tell when she suddenly moved away a few weeks after the incident.

I didn’t want to become the next loser.

None the less, I was going to be the next loser. Or so I had thought.

I guess the new kids knew of the ‘New Kid Principle’, because they didn’t bug me for over two weeks. Though it was only supposed to last a week, they had decided to go two weeks without talking to me, just to be safe.

After those two weeks, the kids started to talk to me. I grew to like them. I grew to think them as part of my family.

Amy was my new best friend. We went shopping together, and I soon wanted to only wear dark clothes. I wanted to wear dark clothes, but didn’t, fearing what my classmates would do if I did.

Richard became a good friend as well. Everyday after school we would hang out, and everyday we did something new. We always did our homework before going out, and it was very easy around them.

Amy and Richard were geniuses. They could’ve been in college, but had decided that they would stay in their age groups, and just took advanced classes. Since they took advanced classes, they helped me on my homework.

I never was that good at homework. I was more of a test person.

After a few months we grew inseparable. I had been part of the popular crowd before Amy and Richard came along, so they had become popular as well. We gossiped a lot, mostly in front of Richard because he hated gossip.

After a year, we had graduated. Yes, they had moved into our small town in their senior year.

The graduation was simple, but it was better than I thought it was going to be. As soon as we received our diplomas, we went out to hang out. Just me, Amy, and Richard.

We had decided to hang around the park, but I didn’t know what we were at the park for. We had decided that we wanted to discuss our future.

I was going to a regular college, and study to become a writer. My friends knew that I wanted to become a writer, and thought that it was a good idea.

Amy was going to a fashion college, apparently near my college. She had always liked fashion, and I was sure that she would be perfect for the job.

Richard was going to a business college that was next to my college. He had always wanted to be a big business man, so I thought that it was a great idea.

After we discussed which colleges we were going to, I realized that they were both going to a college that was near mine and it creeped me out.

I asked them why they were going to a college near mine. They said that I was their best friend, and that we should always be best friends.

After a while, I decided that something was up with Amy and Richard, and decided to ask them what was up.

They told me everything. Everything.

They were vampires. They lived forever, and the only way for them to die is if they kill themselves willingly, or if they just don’t drink blood for a year. They could go out in the sunlight, and they had powers. They didn’t drink a lot of blood, and when they did it was animal blood. They could eat human food. They could sleep.

Many rumors about vampires were false.

They finally told me why they were close to me. They wanted me to become a vampire with them.

I had been scared, but had said yes.

How foolish I was.

I didn’t know what I was thinking; I didn’t even know what I was doing. I had been to busy thinking that I could be with my best friends forever, but never thought about anything else.

After a month, we preformed the ritual.

The ritual was simple. All you had to do was drink either animal blood, or human blood, and then drink a vampire’s blood.

I had drunk animal blood, and then drank Richard’s blood.

Amy had insisted that I drink Richard’s blood, but she never told me why. Richard had been really happy about it, and I thought he was just happy that I was going to be a vampire.

How naïve I was.

The transformation was done in a matter of minutes, and I had become beautiful. I had lovely dark brown hair that reached my shoulders, I had sea blue eyes, and my skin became paler. I had also become smarter than I was before, and I could run faster than I could before.

As soon as the transformation was done, I wanted to sleep. I wanted to sleep so badly. Richard and Amy immedietly knew that I was sleepy, because they put me right to bed.

Luckily for me, a couple of days after graduation I faked my death and started to live with Richard and Amy in a house in New York. So, I didn’t have to worry about my father and mother finding out about my sudden change.

A day later, I realized what my power was. I had all of them.

I knew why Amy and Richard wanted to be my friends now. They wanted me for my powers. I should’ve known. Richard’s power was to be able to know what a person’s power would be if they became a vampire, and they immedietly knew I was going to be really powerful when they first met me.

They betrayed me.

After learning the truth, I pretended to still believe them. I was still afraid that they could kill me.

I had been afraid of them since the day they had told me that they were vampires, and tried desperately not to anger them.

My plan had worked for a month, before I wanted to leave. I wanted to leave so badly. I wanted to get away from these monsters.

Sure, I was a monster to, but wasn’t like them. I didn’t strive for power like they did. All I wanted was a better life. I thought that I would get that when I had agreed to become a vampire, but all it had done was open my eyes to what they really were.

So, I escaped a month after my transformation. I had escaped in the middle of night, since they were asleep. I had carefully packed all of my clothes, some food, and some of my closest items the night before.

I ran far. I ran all the way to California. Sunny California.

That is where my life is right now. Where I remember the days that I lived with them like yesterday. How I could feel their lust for power every single day. How they had never wanted me to be out of their sights.

I didn’t have to worry about that now.

I had gotten a job at a book store, deciding that I wasn’t ready to start college, and I enjoyed it.

I had loved books ever since I was young, and really liked the job.

I never expected to see a vampire again.

My mistake.

I had seen so many vampires in California that I thought about moving every single day. They disgusted me.

I disgusted me.

I never wanted to be a vampire, I was manipulated. Or, so I think.

I thought about Richard’s and Amy’s powers, and knew that Amy could manipulate people, so I had come to the conclusion that she had indeed messed with my mind.

After a few weeks, I got used to the vampires. I didn’t have to talk to them, unless they were shopping at the book store I worked at, and I didn’t really mind. I had grown used to them.

My hunger for blood had died down over the past few weeks, and the only blood I drank was animals. I never had liked human blood anyways.

Even though I had to eat animal blood, I didn’t like it that much. It hurt me to kill the innocent animals, but I had to. I had to survive.

A year had passed by, and no trouble at all.

My boss was now a close friend of mine.

Her name was Daisy. She was only twenty-five, but she had good business. We had grown a good relationship over the year.

She knew what I was. She wasn’t scared, and that was what I liked about her. I always brought her with me when I went shopping. We became especially close when she rented a room to me that was above her shop.

There was a kitchen, two bathrooms, a living room, five rooms with a bathroom in each, and a storage room.

She had been trying to convince me all year to go to college, and I finally decided that I would. She was starting to get on my nerves about this.

College had only stared yesterday, and I hated it. It was the worst. So many vampires went there, and some of them tried to talk to me. But, before they could even talk to me, I would run away.

Run away. I was a coward.

This is where my story begins

*******

The sunny day did nothing, absolutely nothing to me. All I felt was warmth and that reminded me of my days as a human.

I still wished that I was a human.

“Hurry up Dan! You’re going to be late for school!” Daisy yelled. I was used to her by now, and was living with her.

I can’t believe I let her convince me to go to college.

It had only been two months since I started college, and I liked it in some ways, and in others I did not. I liked that I was learning how to become a writer, and I hated that I was around so many vampires.

I had no friends in college, and I didn’t want any. I didn’t want any human friends since I was afraid that I would one day suck their blood, and I didn’t want any vampire friends since I hated vampires. Daisy was the only friend I needed.

Besides my wolf.

My wolf was still a pup. I named him Midnight. He was awesome. He understood me, and whenever he smelled a vampire he would warn me. He was my protector.

“Coming Daisy!” I yelled back, and ran around my room gathering my stuff. I had my book bag, my books, and my pencils. Everything for class was in my book bag, so I was ready to go.

I ran down the short stairs and met Daisy at the bottom. She handed me a bag filled with my lunch as I ran passed her.

“Goodbye! Remember to feed Midnight!” I yelled behind me, ignoring her replies. I knew what she would say. She would say ‘I always do’.

I had gotten to the school, when I smelled them. The smell penetrated my nose, and I was wondering if they were new or not. I compared the smell to the vampires that went here, and concluded that they were new.

Luckily for me they weren’t Amy and Richard.

I hoped that the other vampires would meet the newcomers first, praying that they would tell them that I didn’t talk to anybody else.

God officially hated me.

I saw them. The new vampires, walk towards me. There were three of them. Two boys and one girl.

The first boy was about six-zero, and he had short black hair; just like Richard. He had hazel eyes, a mix of brown and green. His skin was pale, but not as pale as mine. He wore a T-shirt, pants, and a jacket. He looked ok.

The second boy was about five-six, and he had short light brown hair; almost grey. He had light green eyes, and his skin was tanned, even though he should’ve been pale. He wore a T-shirt, shorts, and a hat. He looks nice.

The girl was about five-four, and she had long strawberry blonde hair. She had chocolate brown eyes, with little specks of green. Her skin was pale, as pale as mine. She wore a pink sundress and flip-flops. She looked nicer than both of the boys.

I wanted them to turn around, to turn the other way. I wanted them to ignore me, like every vampire now did.

They didn’t.

Soon, too soon, they were before me. They all were smiling at me, but the girl’s smile was larger than any of them. She was practically jumping up and down.

“Hi! I’m Iris! You’re a vampire to, right?” she squealed, but only loud enough for vampires to hear. I just stared at her blankly.

“I’m Alan. Ignore my sister, she is a bit hyper when meeting a new vampire” the brown haired boy introduced. I didn’t stop looking at Iris.

“I’m Ethan. We heard from the other vampires that you tend to ignore other vampires. I presume that is what you are doing right now” the black haired boy said. I glared at him.

They knew, so why wouldn’t they leave me alone!

I stepped away from them, and walked around them to get to class. I could hear footsteps from behind me, and knew that they were following me.

I didn’t want them to.

I turned around, and glared at all three of them.

“Leave me alone! I don’t need any friends, so just ignore me like everybody else has; like I told them to!” I nearly screamed at them. I wanted them to leave me alone, to leave me in my own life.

All three of them shook their heads, refusing what I had said. I glared at them, and walked away.

They were following me again. I really needed them to leave me alone.

I started to run. I ran as fast as I could in human pace, and thought that I had lost them when I had turned into my classroom doorway, when I noticed that footsteps were coming from behind me once again.

I groaned, but took my seat for class.

Luckily, I only had three classes.

The three new vampires entered my classroom, and introduced themselves to my class. The teacher started to assign their seats, when I remembered that I had an empty seat next to me; on my left side. I groaned silently, as the teacher assigned Iris to the seat besides me.

She was happy. She was skipping. I officially wanted her to leave me alone.

“Yay! I get to sit next to you!” She squealed as she sat next to me. I knew she was talking to me, but I ignored her.

During the whole class period she tried to talk to me, but I kept ignoring her. I could tell that she was getting frustrated, and was running out of things to talk about. I was glad when she finally had no more ideas and stopped trying to talk to me.

The bell rang, and I started to walk to me next class. I knew they were following me again, and I wanted them to stop.

Why couldn’t they get it!

The next two classes went by really fast, and I soon found myself walking down the street towards the book store. I didn’t want t look behind me and see the kids following me, so I hummed a song in my head.

The song was over by the time I reached the shop, and I immedietly put my stuff away behind the counter.

Daisy looked happy, but I didn’t know why.

“What’s up Dais?” I asked her, ignoring the stares that I knew were directed at me.

“Well, you know how I had three extra rooms up for rent?” She asked me clearly hyper. I nodded cautiously.

I didn’t like where this was heading.

“Well, three college kids bought it! I am so happy! Maybe they could be your friends to!” she squealed.

I knew exactly who she was talking about.

I asked her if I could have the day off, and she said yes; still excited that I was going to have a few more roommates.

I ran up the stares up to my room, and slammed my door behind me. I slumped onto my bed, and laid my head in my hands.

Why! Why was god doing this to me! I had just started to get my life back together, and he does this!

“Are you ok?” A silky voice asked, and I jumped up from my bed and turned my head to my now opened door.

It was Alan. I really didn’t want to see him.

“Get out of my room” I hissed. He just shook his head and closed the door behind him. He took a seat in the chair beside my desk, and stared at me.

“Well, what do you want?” I hissed, clearly not in a good mood. He laughed.

He laughed! He thinks he can laugh when I am in such a crappy mood! Who does this guy think he is!

“So, we know you are a vampire, but we don’t know why you don’t want to be friends with other vampires. We would understand if you didn’t want any human friends, but then that wouldn’t make sense, because you are friends with that lady down there” he explained.

“Daisy” I mumbled. He nodded, and kept laughing.

“Yes, Daisy. She was so excited that we were going to live here. You know, she is the one who told us about you” he stated.

I knew it.

I nodded, but still refused to answer besides a few words.

“So, care to explain?” He asked. He was clearly trying to get me to open up, but I didn’t want to.

I shook my head, and pointed to the door.

Alan laughed, but shook his head.

“Don’t think so. So, maybe you would like to tell us the entire story, or I am not leaving this room” He stated, tapping the desk.

I was getting irritated now. He was tapping my favorite desk, and I only aloud Daisy to touch that desk. That desk was from my old home, a precious memory of mine.

I was about to jump up and tackle him, when I heard the door squeak open.

“I would stop touching that desk if I were you, I’m the only one she lets touch that desk. Also, I will tell you her story, since she refuses to” Daisy explained, lifting his arm away from the desk.

Alan hesitantly pulled his arm out of Daisy’s hold and settled it in his lap. After Daisy came in, Iris and Ethan did as well.

Daisy took a seat besides me, and Iris and Ethan took a seat on the floor. Iris and Ethan were holding hands, so that’s how I concluded that they were dating.

“Ok, so her story happens to start with two vampires. They just moved to her neighborhood. They didn’t talk for two weeks, but when they did they became best friends. Soon it was their graduation. Dan had to learn what they were on their graduation night. They wanted her to become a vampire, and she agreed. They said that they wanted to be her best friends forever” she explained.

Iris stared at me, Ethan scowled, and Alan growled.

“After being turned, Dan figured out what they really wanted after three days. One of them could sense whose powers would be whose when they were turned, and her power was special. She ran away a month after that” She explained.

Everyone let out a gasp, and a sigh of relief afterwards.

“She moved out here, where I gave her a job. We became fast friends when I let her rent a room up here, and soon we were best friends” she explained.

“Why doesn’t she want more friends?” Ethan asked, a scowl hinted in his voice.

I growled at him, ready to attack. Daisy held me back, knowing what my reaction was going to be.

“She hates vampires, and she doesn’t want anymore human friends. She is afraid that they will try to kill her if they learn her secret” she told them.
They all looked shocked after hearing that I hated vampires.

I laughed at their expressions. Daisy wasn’t happy that I laughed, but I had all rights. They were so interested in my personal life; I should be able to laugh at them if they were shocked about just one thing.

“Also, her name used to be Damiana Dandrane. She is now called Dana Parker. I always call her Dan though. She has an interest in writing, and is studying to become a writer” Daisy went on.

I was mad now.

“Don’t tell them everything! It’s my life! Not theirs!” I yelled. Daisy remained calm, as well as everybody else did.

“Are these two vampires responsible for Dana’s distaste for vampires?” Iris asked tenderly.

Daisy nodded, and I gave up.

“Fine, ask me anything. I don’t care anymore” I muttered. Daisy giggled, and knew that she had won.

“Ok, so why don’t you at least tell us what your power is” Ethan asked. I glowered at him.

“I am not going to answer that” I hissed. Daisy had tensed up when Ethan asked that question, and she knew why.

“Why not?” Iris asked.

“Because, Dan is afraid that you guys will try to use her powers” Daisy said sympathetically.

“What is her power? I promise we won’t use her. Please” Alan was practically begging now.

Daisy looked at me, wondering if I would answer. I didn’t want to, but maybe I should learn to trust other vampires. Maybe they could be my friends.

“My power isn’t really just a power. It’s the power. I have all of them” I explained, as they all gasped.

Alan nearly fell out of his chair, while Ethan fell on top of Iris. I was pretty scared that Iris would be squished.

“That is a lot of powers! No wonder those power seeking vampires wanted you!” Ethan exclaimed, getting off of Iris.

I glared at him. Maybe they were the enemy.

“Wait, he didn’t mean it that way! He just meant that we know why they would try to capture you. A lot of vampires are power seekers, and those two vampires were probably power seekers” Iris said hurriedly.

I nodded, letting my anger disperse.

“I think we are done for today” I murmured. Everybody nodded, and left.

Alan hesitantly closed the door behind as he left, and I soon was trying to sleep.

“Sleep now, my little power, but tomorrow I will get you. Don’t you worry” a sickly voice whispered in my ear before I drifted off.

Where was Midnight? I hadn’t seen him when I entered my room. I thought about where Midnight could be while I slept.

I would look for him tomorrow.
