Chapter 3. Reunion
"So do you enjoy the life as a Rebel, Jewel?" Nacht Zeit approached her from the shadows of a shady old building. Nebo Territory did not scare her and very little did. She walked up and stood beside the blonde, looking out at the city. They were on a hill and it was easy to tell Krilo territory from Nebo.
The blonde Rebel did not flinch as NZ approached, "It has its moments." Her hand went to the vials of antivirus strapped to her waist as a habit. She preferred reprogamming as a whole but sometimes situations called for it.
"They took you away and all this time, I had believed you to be offline." NZ growled a bit, biting back the sinking feeling in her systems that the one she loved, was gone.
At this Jewel smiled a mysterious smile, "You honestly think I'm completely gone...the old me is completely dead. How can it be, when I have dreams of the nights we shared Nacht Zeit?"
She looked up at Jewel. "Did you fight for your memories, Jewel? Or was it a mistake in the Rebels' work?"
"I don't really remember what happened...either I resisted the memory wipe or it was an incomplete wipe." At this she turned her gaze to her former partner, her friend.
"Then you are lucky." NZ was unable to look her in the eyes, her memories prodding her thoughts.
"I often wondered...What might've been if I wasn't captured and immunized..." She looked into the pale red eyes of her former compatriot, her own brown eyes hiding her thoughts, her emotions.
"You would have been mine." She simply stated.
She was unphased, "Its still not too late." She closed the distance between them as old emotions began to surface. Standing on her tiptoes, her lips brushed those of the taller android.
NZ wasted no time in pressing the smaller form to her and kissing her fully. Her emotions overwhelmed her clearer thinking as she kissed her former lover. Her friend. She ignored the well known dispute between the two races and held Jewel, just as gently as she had in the past.
Jewel broke the kiss after a while, "I remember bits and pieces...Some of the violence...The nights we shared...Flashes of memory..."
"I remember everything too clearly. I could never get up the courage to replace you, Jewel." NZ laid her head on her shoulder, still holding her as close as before.
The smaller of the pair did not break the hug. It was so comforting, to be held like this for so long.
"But this does make us enemies, as of now, love. I truly wish I could hold you forever, but no longer are you my lover, nor friend. You are my enemy." She kisses her softly, then pulled her pistol from her belt and stepped away, aiming it at Jewel, a fire burning in her eyes. She really would fire. Jewel stared at her in confusion, her emotions immediately going into turmoil. She had no desire to reprogram Nacht, as she should have, but put her hands up anyway. Of course she was deluding herself, there could be nothing between them. Not anymore.
Nacht Zeit stared at her for a moment and shrugged. "I'll see you on the battle field. I'll take care of you then." She put her pistol away and walked off, leaving behind Jewel and every memory she treasured of her.
Jewel smiled, "For what its worth...I would still love you even then." And then she walked back down the hill.
"I will always love you." Was all she said to the departing Rebel.
