So...This came out of a purely innocent desire to work on the
Reaver Imp interiors. And I guess I was going to start with
Arrio's room, since I already had a
quick concept sketch. (Does it qualify as a room? That's perhaps not a nautical-enough term. I don't think it measures up to being a cabin. Bunk? It's a...space that was designed to be a closet, but is big enough to fit a person in comfortably, if they're not claustrophobic. Two people, actually, as you can see...)
So, like I said, I felt like drawing Arrio's room, which is a tiny space. He doesn't actually spend a lot of time in it, but when he's there, he's either: a) sleeping, b) having some of that quality alone time with his
special lady friend, or c) brooding on dark thoughts of some of the more unpleasant aspects of his unusual life. As you can see, we went with option B.
Ironically, I ended up pretty much ignoring the setting of the picture...getting distracted, since this is actually some of my best figure drawing in a while, I think. The sort of vermilliony sheets are right, but there really need to be a lot more pillows. Should remove the blue one (especially here, where it's distracting in the composition) and keep everything in nice warm colors: brick, cinnamon, gold, terra cotta, poppy orange, ochre...I'm sure Arrio would hang up some curtains to make the place feel more like home, and I wonder if he wouldn't paint over those bare metal walls...
The mattress peels up, with storage bins underneath that Arrio keeps his stuff in. The mirror on the wall is on a cabinet (secured with a magnet) that has, like a comb and whatever else. Directly underneath that is an AV set built into the wall, with a speaker and various dials, buttons and wall jacks for plugging in...stuff. To the right of that are two clock-and-calendars, which are connected to the ship central computer. One is the home clock, permanently set to the home dock (which in this case is Ayodele, Republic of Mars.) The other one is a relational clock, which calculates between the current location and upcoming destination and slowly adjusts itself to the new timezone, in order to decrease jetlag. The panel at the bottom opens out, with a trash receptacle and another little cabinet for whatever.
Hmmm...Let's hope that one of those cabinets has antibiotics, because he's totally gonna give her the clap. *moodkiller*

I meant to post a message on this when it went up, but alas, I really love the deep emotion here. The colors really make this piece I think. You can really feel their kissy moment.
