-:Love Seems So Far - Chapter 1:-

Chapter 1. Introduction
"This place is empty too. But I found some old Krilo bodies 3 buildings ago. You gonna reprogram those, Hak?" Vira looked over as his sister as she was examining a Krilo. "Sis?"
"This one's still alive.. I think I might have to do him first."
"If you were anyone else, I'd think you were insane."
Vira lifts the body of the Krilo and heads off, out of the building. Hak follows close behind with the other offline Krilos. The siblings had a daily chore. Each and ever day, the two of them traveled miles from their hide out to find Krilo bodies to reprogram them to Nebos.
The Nebos were a type of Android programmed to protect the earth and help repopulate the human-kind. The Krilos were deadly androids that were programmed to destroy it. But Hak and Vira were Rebel-Nebos. They are reprogrammed specially to reprogram Krilos to Nebos. And they took their job, seriously.
Hak arrived in her office, and set the Krilo down on a metal table.
"Do you have a name, Krilo?"
Black haired and red eyed android glared at both Nebos with distaste. Violence was in his programming, hatred of humans too. For years the two races have been in conflict. Gaze flickered from one to other, and stayed on the 'female'. He found her more visually appealing, "Maladie." He almost spat. His contempt for Nebos was almost as high as his hatred for humans.
"I'm Hak." Was all she said to him, hearing the tone in his voice. Though she really wasn't phased as she began to turn on her systems and her laptop. "I need to know your history. How many humans you've killed. Your lifecycle, and any other information. If you're not willing to speak, I will hack your systems and find out myself."
"Where am I? Why have you taken me here?" His tone betrayed an underlying anger. Moving mouth revealed a flash of fangs as he gripped the sides of the table. "I can't tell you how many humans I've killed...I tend to lose track." He grinned slightly, a fang protruding slightly. The memories of the lifeless bodies of humans brought a certain joy to him. As for his life cycle, he did not know, and wouldn't have told her if he did.
Hak only took notes on her laptop and listened to the sandstorm that was starting outside. The clattering of metal on the building was comforting to her. And she found it easier to work with the sounds. Though she was a bit uneasy with the presence of the Krilo.
"You are the first Krilo to be conscious before I reprogram you."
At this the Krilo became alarmed, "Reprogram!?" His grip on the table became harder as he sat up. "Just what are you going to do to me?!"
Her systems remained calm as she looked at him. "Reprogram you to a Nebo."
He looked her in the eye, red into blue, "Then you should've left me to die..." contempt for what she was going to do and what she was in every word. But, for some strange reason, he did not obey the violent impulse that overcame him at that moment.
"Very well. I shall return you to your old building as is your will." She stood up to turn off her computers.
"Wait...You're not going to harm me...?" Curiosity overcame his anger. Normally the two species could not be in the same room for long without one trying to hurt the other, "Not even an injection of antiviruses?" He swung his feet over one side of the table.
"I am not programmed to harm you in anyway. I will not lower myself to the level of violence. It is unneeded and a pathetic way of earning your civil rights. As is your nature." She walked to him and placed her arms on either side of his legs, leaning on the table and looking him in the eyes. "No, Maladie. I will not harm you in anyway.
Maladie ran his tongue over his lips as she came close. Too close for his comfort. He scooted a bit further away, "It is how we're made. To destroy. You guys...Are different." Unlike before, he could not bring himself to meet her gaze.
Blue eyes averted from his as she went back to shutting her computers down. She ignored all he'd said about them being different, still as confident as before in her programming. She saw a stack of papers in the corner of her eye. The lists of Krilos she'd reprogrammed in the past. All with no memory of it ever occurring and believing that they had always been a Nebo. She loved her job but she also wished it were as easy as walking out the front door.
He was silent for a long time, "Why?" He asked as she busied herself shutting down her computer. The Krilo kept his gaze on her, "Has it occurred to you that we might be happy as we are?"
Hak snapped her head up in his direction, not completely registering that he’s serious.
"Can you really look me in the eyes and tell me you’re happy alone? No one to love you. No one to care for you, and all you get in return is the Nebos shoving in your face, Antiviruses, to destroy you forever? Can you REALLY look me in the eyes and tell me, "This is what I want for the rest of my life, Hak", because, I'm sorry, that's not the life I want to live, Maladie." She huffed and flicked the light on as it was near nightfall. "I cannot stand the ways of the Nebos. All they are programmed to do is destroy the Krilos. All the Krilos want to do is take any and all life away. But from a Rebel's point of view... from MY point of view, that's all wrong. I don't inject anyone with antiviruses. I am programmed to take a Krilo body that still functions well and reprogram it to a Nebo. Because I don't like to watch anyone die. Whether it be Nebo, or Krilo."
"In other words a pacifist. You wouldn't last a day as a Krilo." His gaze flicked to the window, displaying the fading daylight, "Take me back in the morning. Its not going to be safe for you now."
"Can't be any worse than your ring-leader, Benzin." She smiled a bit. "Now he was a fun challenge." She laughed softly, keeping her eyes to the floor. Maladie said nothing to her in response to her statement about Benzin. He clenched his fists however, and pounded one against a wall in frustration.
"Benzin.. was something."
Hak looked at Maladie, and eyed his clear crimson eyes. "Hard to believe, sometimes, he used to be my lover."
His voice was barely a murmur, but the words that came out surprised him, "I'm sorry."
She heard him well, but it was not normal for her. This Krilo before her was apologizing. He must have all ready had an injection before, or maybe he was glitched. Blue eyed android had a hard time trying to figure out a logical reason for his apology.
He glanced at her for a moment before taking off to the other side of the room, away from her and her questioning gaze. Something in his nature was beginning to change, and it frightened him.
After a few hours, Hak began to bury herself in her work. She was working to reprogram a fallen Krilo that still had working body functions. All looked in check as she began storing away useful history about the Krilo, and replacing them with a Nebo soldier's saved history.
"Maybe I can add a bit more of a future. Make him a.. Rebel." The thought was nagging at her. She wanted to try but it wasn't in her programming to make another Rebel-Nebo. Only Nebos. She shook her head and went back to her work, tossing the thought aside.
Maladie had taken to pacing the room. He did not speak while she worked, his thoughts on what she was doing already known. But still a thought troubled him, was he happy, really truly happy being what he was? Or was he deluding himself? Like other Krilos, he had taken pleasure in defeating and killing humans. There was a certain perverse pleasure in feeling their bones crunch beneath his hands. But still...was he happy alone? And what was this love that Hak had spoken about? He had never felt anything like this in his life. As a Krilo, he had often worked by himself. He relied on no one, and therefore no one relied on him. It was often better that way.
Hak looked up from her work as the files were being exchanged. She gazed at Maladie without even realizing it. Her blue eyes fixated on his crimson. She was suddenly unable to tear her gaze away from him.
He glared at her, the blood-colored eyes becoming slits. It was Hak that was confusing the Krilo. After a moment he looked elsewhere, "What is it?"
She blinked, registering that she'd been looking at him, and shook her head. She replied not. She was lost in what she was thinking about him. She all most considered him another Rebel. Yet he was not.
He looked out the window, where the sun was rising. "Better move me now before everyone gets roused into normal daytime life." He side glanced at her, "You know how hard I find it to believe that you're not going to try to immunize me?"
"I don't particularly want to take you back, but I will follow your wishes." She looked up at him, sleep clearly near getting the better of her.
The Krilo paused, why was she doing this? Clearly she was fatigued. "I'll just go on my own." The next words that tumbled out of his lips surprised him again, "Go take care of yourself."
She looked up at him momentarily, then nodded. "Take care of yourself... Maladie. I mean it. Gute Tag." Her words were strained, all most hurt in the tone. Though she left as quickly as her goodbye to him, disappearing into the back room.
Maladie was careful to make note of the building and its location as he left. Perhaps, he would drop by again...But he dismissed that thought as he walked along.
