A very bright girl's innocence was stolen by a terrifying world. She hid herself away and cried for many years, and in time, she forgot herself. She had a name once.

Though she had forgotten it, the mind in the nether remembered. The eyes were ever watchful. He dwelled there among a host of old imagination's playthings. Next to the sanguine man, all else was pale.

--

A stream of consciousness painting, mysterious in its content with a yet more mysterious piece of drabble accompanying. Something horrible and wonderful at once happened to me while I was working on this. Somewhere in this image, there's a picture of my earliest memories of childhood. Nostalgia always leaves me with an uncomfortable feeling of vertigo.

My mum spied this one while it was in progress and said that I was a wicked child. She questioned why the man was smiling in the midst of all the "evil things." I can only conclude that the observation was made of the creatures' apparent homeliness, and that Shasalis was implicitly spared the adjective on account of beauty, or an apparent semblance of humanity. It led me to contemplate the fact that we live in a world in which ugliness is still associated with wickedness. I don't know what the moral of this lesson is, but it's something to think about.

Gom Jabbar Says:

The choice of colour here is brilliant.

mercury yume Says:

the pale tone gives a sense of only quasi-interaction between the creatures and Shasalis, as though there is something otherworldly and possibly dangerous about this scene. Also, it is excellently painted, the shading is tight.

INDEED THE LIL CUTE KITTY LOOKS SO DEVILISH
I actually adore this one.
U make such fine art Vee

Merina Says:

Because the rest is all white, you really get drawn into the character itself.

I really love the contrast here between Shasalis and the marble-like animals and figures.

Arbiter K Says:

It is an annoying trait, associating ugly with wicked. My persona, Muerte Rojo, is victim of this a bit. Either way and no matter why, it's still pretty bad. I'm am always pointed out as "the one to shoot up a school" by the way I dress, look, and such, plus my avoidance of talking too much, even though I'm tame and easy to talk to if the conversation doesn't start with "you psycho?"

Plus, I'm so religious and so against killing that I dread even holding a gun. They are just..too "death-y" for me. I personally avoid fights unless I must defend myself.

Bah, babbling. This piece really speaks to me. Even more so with your mention of how your mum reacted: my parents think of me as too dark due to my writing. This whole picture...I can't even begin how to describe how "representing" it is to stuff I've seen in high school.

Sevanabaybee Says:

Great work on the creatures and the colors are beautiful. So soft and not so busy, which works well with this piece. Love it!

Kerrigore Says:

Stunning as always. I am instantly drawn to Shassie's smug little expression. I love it.

Firefly2020 Says:

An intriguing peice that stirs the imagination, though it can not be considered beautiful i would still choose to call it so. The little story afterward reminds me of Labirynth. Have you ever seen that movie?
