Warriors: I'm Sorry, No More Lies [ Spoiler Warning]
She’d spent the last few days pleasing to the older cat to tell the secret. But he didn’t listen. Not the other three cats that involved the secret either. When he neared them, there was a purr of cruel amusement. There was only a small amount of time left until the gathering started, and the secret would be totally revealed. To all four clans. And that would spread to every other cat that couldn’t come to the gathering. And that would eventually spread to even rouges. Even they were just rouges, one more cat equaled even more embarrassment and hatred against her.
She’d convinced the warriors she had played mother to for moons that her farther wouldn’t drive them out of the clan, but she wasn’t so sure. Would Firestar really be able to keep them in the Clans? Or would the other cats drive them out? Even if they had to attack the ThunderClan leader in the process?
Every strand of fur on her pelt with raised, filled with fury and anger. It was all that damned Ashfur’s fault! Squirrelflight hadn’t fallen in love with him, but rather another a cat, and Ashfur felt he had to break her heart in order to heal his own. As fire hit the camp do the storm, he was going to allow her kits to die, have her suffer the pain he did. But she blurted it out that she wasn’t there real mother at all, so the smokey gray warrior spared them.
Now they resented her for the huge lies over many moons. They refused to talk to her. And worst of all, Ashfur was going to tell everyone. At the gathering. Tonight. The moon was rising, and it would be time soon.
To get rid of fury the ginger she-cat had ran off into the forest, using her abilities as best hunter in the clan to take her anger out on mice and rabbits she could take back to the camp for fresh kill. She walked through the forest along the border with WindClan. The border, the stream, was high and fast flowing due to the storm.
Squirrelflight was walking along, looking for some more prey she had buried around here, dreading the meeting that was going to happen soon. She scanned the ground, before her emerald eyes caught movement in front of her. A dark gray pelt, virtually invisible against the dark surroundings, and suddenly the lust for blood flowed through her body. Ashfur! Her head moved glanced left and right, and not trusting her sight completely, she scented the air. No one was around. That would make everything easier.
She crouched on her haunches, before dashing forward. Her pelt was bright and easily visibly amongst her dark surroundings, but the dray warrior wasn’t turned to her and not to mention that her paws were silent against the forest floor. Many moons of being the best warrior allowed her paws to not make a sound against the ground. Squirrelflight ran forward. She crouched, and pounced, all before the heartbroken warrior could turn his head. She barreled into him, and knocked the warrior into the water, and delivered a clean killing bight to neck like she would if it was a mouse.
The only sound of a struggle was the splash as the two cats tumbled into the water. One was already limp by the time it hit the water. There were no yowls. It was over as quick as it had begun.
The ginger she-cat stepped out of the water, shaking drops of water from her fur. She glanced back behind her, to the wad off fur stuck on the edge of the rocks. It made no movements except for the tail moving due to the flow of water. She gave a purr of delight. Killing this cat… she had no regrets. It was done for the safety of not only herself, but Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jaypaw. She made have not actually given birth to them, but their mother couldn’t possibly reveal herself when they were born, so she took on the role instantly, and she couldn’t love her own kits any more than she could love this trio.
She craned her neck back to look at the sky. “Mousdung!” The She-cat snapped. She began shaking the water from her pelt, but she had no time. Squirrelflight ran forward, dashing for the camp entrance. “Have the cats left for gather yet?” She panted, asking the guard at the front of the bramble tunnel. “Yeah… they have… why are you wet?” One of them replied. She spun around, chasing after the usual trail to the WindClan border in order to head over the island. “Never mind that!” She called back to them.
The she-cat ran for the border, her heart bounding. What if they discovered Ashfur? She ran forward, catching up to them shortly before they would have to cross the stream at the stepping-stones.
“I was beginning to think you weren’t coming,” Firestar said, turning around as she noticed her approach, stopping the rest of the cats briefly. The leader didn’t show much expression, but she could tell he was wondering why her fur was soaking wet. “I’m sorry, Firestar, I was out hunting when I fell into the stream.” Her voice wasn’t nervous or shaky of the slightest. She was truly able to walk away from a dead clan mate she was angry enough. The leader, a much orange-er brighter furred ginger compared to her own fur only nodded and headed forward, only until a cat let out a terrified yowl. “Ashfur!”
The limp body remained where Squirrelflight had left it. She mimicked a terrified look of surprise. “What? Who killed him?” Two of the cats dragged the limp, wet ball of fur out of the water.
“There’s no WincClan or rouge scent on him!”
“Maybe he fell into the water like I did. The river can be pretty dangerous right now.”
Firstar shook his head, and flicked his tail to two of the younger warriors. “Ashfur would just drown. Please take his body back to the camp so the elders and other can sit vigil, if we don’t hurry up, the other clans we’ll wonder where we are.”
One more cat stepped forward to also help Ashfur back, Lionblaze, her “kit” who was the previous apprentice of him. Lionblaze hated the tom just as much as Squirrelflight, but in order to keep the secret hidden, he had to act concerned.
Her eyes and posture didn’t give away any of the joy she was feeling right now. Aside from the three warriors that were headed back to the camp, everyone just continued on with mews of concern. As long as no one found out… she would be safe. And so would the three cats she loved as her kits, even if she wasn’t really their mother.
