Lol..I hear what you mean about the ending, but it's not too bad at all. I run into the same problem because the melody has a tendency to keep playing. If I may be as so bold as to offer a suggestion
I normally cover the odd spots up with crescendos, or just scale all the way up the piano until I hit the last root in the octave of whatever scale I'm in. That, or you can do that choir thing: raise the third a half step in whatever scale the major chord you used was in, and then lower the third a whole step from the triad position of that major chord, and finally return to the triad position. I hope that makes sense...lol...I can't read music so my terms may be off or something..But I hope that helps
