An original piece I did for my Character and Object Design class. The assignment was to create a fierce-looking creature based off of either A) a combination of two animals, or B) a combination of a human and an animal. All of the drawings for the project had to be done on mixed media, and presented in a portfolio. It was a fun project, and and I got an "A"!
Now onto my Cheetah-Crane! For the assignment, I combined together a Cheetah and a Blue Crane, and fused them together into a more Cheetah-like animal. The "fluffies" are actually feathers, and he obviously has a beak and talons. (It may, actually, be from a Hawk or some other bird-of-prey instead of a Blue Crane, but that was the intent.

) My Cheetah-Crane is meant to be an uber predator, relying on stealth and speed to capture prey. It's main dietary staple is... Lions. It's powerful enough to hunt and take down lions. (Somehow... It's bit of nitpick on how exactly he can do that.

) The whole "eating lions for breakfast" thing came about from reading about how lions will kill and even eat cheetah cubs and steal a cheetah's kill. Since cheetahs are my favorite animals and big cat, I wanted to have a little bit of a "revenge" element to my character.

But overall, he's meant to be a plains and desert predator, residing (obviously) in Africa, feasting on Lions... He's fairly agressive, rather haughty, pretty much minds his own business, a highly intelligent animal, and knows he's "bad". If he eats lions... Think about what he can do to humans... Mwahahaha...
On an artistic note, this piece was done with colored pencils and 91% alcohol on colored-paper. No, really.

And yeah. I know it's not the world's best scan...

I tried some correction in Photoshop to at least make it look presentable.
Materials: Prismacolor Pencils, 91% alcohol, colored paper, color correction in Photoshop CS2.
