Child of Three Thousand Generations 3

Part 3, section 4…

Michiyo was back in her apartment, putting her hair dye into a cupboard which she locked. Taking the key with her to her room, she opened a chest at the foot of her bed. It wasn’t a very large chest, but nor was it small. The chest was wide, about two and a half feet. It stood from the ground about 18” from the ground.
It wasn’t much decorated. Made of wood, it had simple iron handles at either end, with an iron clasp. As Michiyo opened the chest, one could see some books, comics and precious keepsakes in sections of the box. But there was more to this chest than met the eye. Michiyo withdrew a flap of cloth along the lining of the chest, and revealed a small symbol drawn in ink. It was just visible against the dark wood. The symbol was a small circle with a small curved rune running through it.
She withdrew a kunai from her side. She brought it up, and raised her right hand slowly. The hand holding the kunai was brought back high above her head. It stayed there for a second as she decided and focused on her target. Then the kunai sped so fast toward her hand that any normal person would have chopped off at least three of their fingers if not their whole hand. Michiyo, though, is most decidedly NOT normal.

The kunai stopped at the tip of her thumb at an angle.
There was a loud CLANG as the kunai made contact.
Michiyo withdrew the kunai and inspected the damage. She sighed as she saw the blade chipped. Then a small, tiny drop of red the size of a pinprick appeared on her thumb. She smiled, relieved, and pressed the blood on her thumb to the symbol. For a moment there was nothing but the drop of blood, but then the symbol seemed to pulsate. It soaked up the blood, turning red. Then the blood bled from the rune, expanded, and ran across all the edges of the case. It glowed once, and then faded away to nothing.
Michiyo took the edges of the casing, and lifted. The bottom was taken out, and a secret compartment was revealed. She put the key into this compartment, hanging it on a hook. She looked at the contents one last time before putting the bottom back. She pressed her thumb to the symbol, and chakra shot through it, and the box was sealed.
“Phew. Well, these ninja arts ARE pretty useful, after all. Art of Transformation, Substitution… still… I think that a blade is your best bet in a battle. It always was for me. Still, I don’t think the Order exists anymore…”
Michiyo’s eyes grew distant, remembering unwanted memories.
“Those… monsters… how could they, those mindless droning killers!! Stupid, senile emperor… everything had to go wrong, didn’t it?!”
Michiyo closed her eyes, and clenched her fists. She slowly opened her eyes before she unclenched her fists. She put her hands against the sides of her face… dropping them, she strode toward the door.
‘Time to go meet my team.’
She opened the door, locked it behind her and took off. She was already at the Academy before anyone in her team. It only took her six seconds to travel the puny half-mile; after all, she wasn’t caring about going a slow pace to match these ninja.
