Excerptness (Read it, It is awesomesauce)
“I can look for info on Barrow with Mara.” He smiled uncomfortably.
“Nope!” Mara protested. “I’m never going with you!”
“Oh, yeah, you will. You can look for other stuff, like wildlife, climate, and plants, okay?” He looked at her, knowing her answer.
When he mentioned the word wildlife, Mara perked up. She loved wildlife, and that was good enough for her, it seemed.
“Fine, I’ll do it.” She grinned, and then we all split up.
When I was sure Tracy and Mara had disappeared into the shelves, I decided to chat with Trevor and look for some books.
“C’mon, Trevor.” I said, walking into the west side of the library.
“Okay, Amanda.” He agreed, and followed me.
When we got deeper into the shelves, it was dead quiet.
(The library was like a large maze, but I knew it like the back of my hand)
Trevor crouched down to look at the bottom shelf, and I walked over to him. I stood right above him, almost towering over his slim crouched body. I reached over him to grab a book called A Traveler’s Gear, but then, my arm accidentally brushed against his hair. All the blood went to my face as I blushed.
“S-Sorry.” I mumbled as I attempted to grab the book again.
“Wow, you look so…be- I-I mean tall from down here.” He stammered.
I’d thought I’d heard him start so say beautiful, but it was probably just in my head.
“Yeah, well, that’s just me.” I replied. “I’ve always been freakishly tall for my age.”
“Well, I’m a bit taller than you, and I’m normal for my age, so you’re just normal, too.” He protested against my words.
Then, my eyes caught sight of a book on the bottom shelf; it was called All the Young Traveler Needs to Know .
“Just what I need!” I thought.
My hand reached for it, but then, Trevor’s shot out to grab it, too. Our hands met right at the spine of the book.
I blushed, and so did he. But, for some, reason, he did not remove his hand. I opened my mouth to speak, but then closed it as my mind went berserk. The sound all around us seemed to stop, and my heart pounded faster than ever. His fingertips gently pushed mine to lock with his as he grasped my hand. He stood up to reach my level and then he shook his head, and his face turned as red as a tomato. His hand slowly let go of mine.
“Oh, god, Amanda, I’m sorry.” He apologized, looking down. “I sort of got lost in the moment there.”
“Yeah, me too.” I replied, smiling as my body boiled and my face turned red.
He reached down to grab the book we were reaching for, and handed it to me.
“Here’s that book you found. This looks like the key to our success, here. If we ever wanna find Malun, then we’ll need this.” He said.
“Thanks, Trevor.” I said. “I couldn’t have found it without you.”
“Yeah, I-” he began, but was then cut off by Mara, skipping to the shelf we were by, with Tracy tagging along.
“Found a book, yet?” Tracy asked.
“Yep. We found a good one, too.” I answered him.
“How about you guys?” Trevor questioned.
“Yeah, we both found several books.” Tracy replied.
“Cool.” Trevor said. “We had-”
But he was interrupted by the end-of-the-day announcements on the P.A. system.
“I guess we’d better check these books out, then.” I told them.
“Uh-huh.” Mara agreed. “Tracy and I will take ours up and check them out.
“Alright,” I said. “Trevor and I will be right there.” After they left, we tried to find some more books, but we couldn’t find one better than the one we picked together.
Chapter Two
Mission Departing
That night, I miraculously bribed my parents into letting me go on the mission. It was not easy, but I somehow got them to say yes. I lied a lot- telling them it probably wasn’t dangerous. My mother made me pack everything I had, and I didn’t think I needed most of it.
When I came to school next morning, things didn’t go to well.
As I walked in the door, Macie came up to me.
“Hey.” She said.
“Yeah, I need to tell you something.” I replied her.
“Okay, what?” She asked me.
“Tracy, Mara, Trevor and me won’t be at school for a few months.” I replied.
“Why!?” she asked, looking very jealous.
“We can’t tell; secret info and such.” I replied calmly, but that seemed to tip her off.
“Well, whatever.” She said “I don’t care what you’re doing!” she stormed off.
“Maybe it’s because I mentioned Trevor…” I thought.
But then, it hit me. She has a crush on Trevor, too, and it has sort of shoved us apart. And the library! How would I ever explain that to her without possibly losing our friendship?
Just then I felt someone grab my shoulder. It was Tracy.
“Amanda, meet us at the library, and make sure you and Trevor bring your book!” He smiled happily and finished, “I think he’s at his locker.” He winked at me and walked off towards the library.
I jogged up the stairs, eager to see what he was up to at his locker.
When I finally got to locker 1220, he was standing there, taking his textbooks out of his locker.
“Hey!” He said, as he turned around to face me with a bright smile.
“We need to meet Tracy and Mara in the library.” I said, “And bring that book.” Finished, pointing at the book we chose.
“Look, Amanda, I’m really sorry about yesterday.” He looked down at his green, white, silver, and black sneakers and blushed. “I mean, well, I sort of…en-enjoyed that.”
The butterflies in my stomach game me a sick feeling when he finished his sentence.
“Well, I guess you could say I did, too.” I looked down at my blue, silver, gray and white sneakers.
“I guess we should get going now- first period started five minutes ago, and Tracy’s gonna be wondering where we are.” I spoke.
“Yeah.” He replied.
On our way to the library, we discussed how cool the trip would be, and how we can’t wait until we get to leave the school.
As we entered the library, Mara and Tracy had already started their research. Tracy was engrossed in a computer screen, and Mara sat at one of the round tables, taking notes and reading.
Tracy looked away from his screen and saw us.
“Oh, there you are! You guys can do what you want, I’ll be researching Barrow on this computer. You guys can research with Mara if you like, or go on another computer.” He gave us a warm smile and then returned to his work on the computer.
