Chapter 3
________________________________________

A knock on my door woke me up from my sleep. I groaned, but stayed in bed. The person knocked harder; and I still didn’t wake up.

“Wake up this instant Miss Abigail” I heard Rosemarie call behind the door. I groaned louder; as a sign that I wasn’t going to budge.

A softer knock was heard at the door, and I pulled my eyes open a bit and looked at the door. I suspected that it was Blaine, but I couldn’t be sure. I wasn’t giving any chances until I was sure.

“Please get up Miss Abi” I heard Blaine call. I smiled, but did not get up; I was not going to give up without a fight.

“Make me” I hissed jokingly. I heard a pound on the door; which was probably Blaine punching the door.

For a few moments it was silent, and I truly believed that they had finally given up. I sighed with relief as five minutes passed, and pulled the covers over my head and tried to fall back into a deep sleep.

As I began to sleep, I heard a shuffle of feet, and the clank of the door unlocking. I immedietly shot up, and dared to look into Rosemarie and Blaine’s angry faces. It was too late, I was caught.

Blaine walked over my bed, and took my sheets off; like it was nothing. As soon as the sheets were off he grasped my wrist, and pulled me off of my bed. I groaned desperately trying to reach my bed again. Blaine just pulled me farther from my bed.

I knew what Rosemarie was doing while Blaine was getting me up; she was picking out an outfit for me to wear. I was not happy with what she had picked.

She had picked the ugliest dress I had; it was a gift from my horrid aunt. It was a long dress that reached the floor that was red. It had purple ruffles, and green ribbons all around it.

Blaine lifted my arms up so Rosemarie could put the dress on. I whimpered and shook my head. I tried to look like I was crying while they were dressing me; which was kind of awkward, since Blaine is a boy. It didn’t work.

After fifteen minutes I was dressed and my hair was up in a dozen pink ribbons; which looked horrible in my opinion. This would have to be the first time that I hated the hairdo that Rosemarie gave me; I guess that’s what I get for being stubborn.

I was rushed out of my room in just a matter of minutes, and the next thing I knew I was in front of the dining room twin doors. I cowered from the doors, letting my fear surface. The twin doors were scary, not just the dining room. They were so huge, that when I was a kid I used to imagine that they would one day topple over and I would be crushed. To this day I still have that dream every once in a while.

Blaine could see my fear, and hesitated. When Rosemarie saw that Blaine wasn’t going to do anything further, she pushed the doors opened and pushed me to my chair. She didn’t seem to care that I was scared.

As I took my seat, I could see my aunt. She was in my father’s seat; which always annoyed me. She didn’t look quit the same. She looks a little bit younger, and she was smiling. Never in my years have I seen her smile, grimace yes, smile no. Her hair was blonde again, and I guessed that she died it. Her hair was blonde when I was about five, but when her husband died in an accident; which I do not believe and never will, her hair turned gray and her skin turned wrinkly.

Now that I looked closely at her I could see that her skin was softer, and had hardly any wrinkles.

I would have put my guard down, if I wasn’t so scared that it was another one of her sinister plots.

Ever since I was a child my aunt would torture me. Sometimes, just for fun she would break a vase and blame it on one of my servants, and my father would punish my servant and give me a lecture on how I am not disciplining them enough. She would also “accidentally” slap me in the face. I would always have red marks on my pale cheeks when she left, and luckily she only came over during the vacation.

I threw a fake smile at her. “Hello Aunty. How are you this lovely morning?” I asked her. I couldn’t believe I could actually talk to her nicely, but I had to. Father had spies all over the Estate when he is gone, and if I was rude to my Aunt then he would punish me. I had learned my lesson when I was seven.

She smiled at me, which looked kinda of honest; but I still didn’t believe it. “I am doing quit lovely. How are you Abigail?” she said; in a surprisingly sweet tone.

I could tell that my jaw drop and that I showed astonishment in my features. I was surprised that she sounded nice that I didn’t notice that a plate of eggs, bacon, and ham was set in front of me.

I finally snapped out of it, and started to eat my breakfast. I stared at my Aunt throughout the whole meal, never taking my eyes off of her.

Soon, when our meals were finished, I stood up and curtsied to her. “May I be excused?” I asked her politely. She just nodded and waved her hand; which also astonished me. She usually just snapped at me about how she should wait for her elders to speak first; but not this time.

I slowly exited and closed the double doors behind me. I was baffled.

I walked back to my room; ignoring any comment from Blaine. Rosemarie had left while we were eating, which I was glad about.

When I reached my room I let Blaine come in and let the door close by itself. I motioned for him to sit in a chair, but he gracefully declined. I hesitantly sat on my bed. I just stared off into space for about five minutes before I figured out the Blaine was in my face.

I glared at him and kicked his shin. I grimaced as he bounced up and down on one foot shouting in pain.

I doubled over in laughter, and landed on my back. I didn’t notice Blaine was done bouncing until a pillow flew at my face.

I shot up; pillow in hand. Blaine had left.

“What a coward” I muttered. He had courage at some points, but apparently he couldn’t take a girl who was younger than him; which made him a coward in my book.

I quickly closed the open door, and took off my ugly dress and took out the ribbons in my hair.

It took me about an hour to get the right look.

I walked over to my tall mirror and looked at myself. My reflection was wearing a light blue dress with a white petty coat, and my in two opposite braids. I smiled at myself. I looked perfect, and without Rosemarie’s help.

I opened my door as soon as I got my shoes on, and found Blaine waiting. I smiled at him and grabbed his wrist.

I could tell that he was confused, but I would respond until we were outside; literally outside.

As we left the darkness of the Estate Mansion behind and enter the land of the living, I could feel a warm breeze on my skin. I might not need my petticoat at all.

As soon as we reached the dirt road I let go of Blaine’s wrist and turned on him. “Do you want to know where we are going?” I asked him.

He just nodded.

“We are going shopping” I said with a smile. I could tell that he has gone shopping with a girl at least once. You would have to be dome not to know that when a mans’ face turned pale and they gulped.

He looked horror-stuck; as I call it.

“This is going to be fun!” I squealed.
