All I can really say is that the inspiration came from the cold air outside, that's about it. Oh, and I put a whole bunch of effort into the frequency balance, hope you notice.
This is GORGEOUS! And I see what you mean about frequency balance--you really seem to use all parts of the "spectrum" but without their interfering with each other and turning into a mess in the middle.
The bells are probably my favorite bit--such soft sounds, yet they stand out so well even against everything else that's going on in this song.
