Suggestions though... (I haven't read your story (yet, give me time! lol)) But he looks like a very elegant man. So maybe try softening the shoulder lines a little. And even the chin. And if you add a little bit of shading under & around the neck, it might give it more of a dimentional look to it.
I'm not much of a drawer to be honest, lol, but I help a lot of my friends with their work. I compare their drawings to real life & give examples on what they can do to make the pic come to life.
