You and I (I Watch From Afar)
I wrote this poem for you and I expressing how I feel.
I wrote this poem for you and I, but just what is the deal?
I wrote this poem for only us, but will it ever be read?
I wrote this poem for only us, but too late...is the love dead?
You are the brightest moonlight which glows true within my eyes,
you hold a radiant beauty that you simply can't disguise.
From your soft and lovely hair to your simple way of verse,
there isn't any part that I could dislike, much less curse...
As I look into your eyes, I see many different greens,
from the forest, distant past, to the fields, yet unforeseen...
But again there lies a troubling thing of which I can't deny,
Within your eyes, I see the tears there, which make me want to die...
Please forgive this one for causing you more pain than one can bear,
of excuses, I have many...of explanations, I am bare...
Just hear this, my love, and know it true, my past I cannot fix,
my future I will craft so sweet, like summer lemonade mix...
Though I know I cannot have you, I remember when I held you,
with one arm wrapped tight around you, and your arm wrapped around, too.
A pleasant conversation and more than a few playful flirts,
but a loving gesture reciprocated always makes things work...
It was when I tried so hard to prove that I could be your "one"
that I found as hard as I might try, I'd always be on the run...
From weeks to months and months to years, like a flying flock of doves,
I found things changed...people changed...and you had found your love...
Some care to say romance is dead -- of that, I disagree...
the one I see you hold so close now is living proof for me.
He holds you close as I once did with tender strength and care,
as I stand alone on hillside as the wind blows through your hair...
I wrote this poem for you and I to tell you how I feel.
I wrote this poem for you and I, although I'm just a heel...
Be it me or someone else that brings that smile to your face,
know that I will always love you... For all time... Though all space...
