the title is the title of a story by raymond carver. in it, a drunk man rants and raves about different types of love, from abuse to that one true love, where even if you're old and ugly, you still love eachother so fucking much it kills you to be away from them.
i actually broke down and used a reference for this. i took the expression from the dresden dolls' "coin-operated boy" video.
