Chapter 5

----------------------------------------------------------------

Chimari woke up, startled by a sudden “crack”. She sat up quickly, looking at her surroundings. She sighed with relief. The forest was filled with sunlight; the grass was a light shade of green, the trees rustled by the wind, and apples on the floor. She looked for the sun, finding a red sun a little above the ground, in a sunset. “I love sunrises” she whispered.

“Sunrises are boring. Midnight is better” Kiyumi said. Kiyumi yawned, and stretched her limbs. Kiyumi stared at the sunset. “It is beautiful” she said. “I’ll wake up Hajin and Kenji” Chimari said. Kiyumi just nodded, staring at the sunrise. Chimari soon ran back and stood next to Kiyumi. “I like Midnight better” she whispered. Kiyumi looked over at her sister. “Sunsets and sunrises are better” she argued. Chimari shook her head.

Kiyumi sighed. “I don’t want to fight with you” Kiyumi whispered. “I don’t want to fight either” Chimari answered. They turned to look at each other. They both had tears forming in their eyes. “Your brown hair looks wet” Chimari said. Kiyumi grinned. “Your black hair looks like a bird nest” she said. They both laughed at their random talk about their hairs.

“What are you laughing about” Kenji’s low voice said. Kiyumi turned around, facing the opposite direction from Kenji. “Nothing” she said. Kenji laughed. “You guys are so weird” he laughed. “So are you” Chimari countered. They all laughed at Chimari’s comeback, everyone except Hajin. Hajin was still asleep.

Kiyumi started to walk back to camp. “Hey, while you’re going back to camp, can you wake up Hajin?” Kenji yelled out. Kiyumi nodded. As she neared the dark brown haired boy, he stirred. “Where….. Mother….. Sisters…. Aunt….” He whispered desperately in his sleep. Kiyumi started to giggle. “He is so weird” she thought. Kiyumi kneeled down next to Hajin. “I should poke him…. With a stick!” she thought. She quickly looks around for a stick. Her eyes settled on a small twig. She snickered, and grabbed the small twig. She held it up to her sparkling green eyes and giggled. “This is going to be fun” she giggled.

She started to poke Hajin’s side. He stirred only a little bit, but it showed little effect. Kiyumi’s cheeks puffed up. “Why won’t he wake up” she thought. She poked him again, nothing. She kept poking and poking. “I will not give up” she thought angrily. She was so frustrated that she stabbed him, on accident, supposedly.

Hajin shot up with a sharp “OW!” Kiyumi fell back in laughter. “It worked” she laughed out loud. Hajin shot Kiyumi a death glare. “So, it was you who stabbed me! You could have killed me!” he yelled. Kiyumi stopped and sat up. She glared at him. “I could never kill a bug, why would I kill you?” she demanded. He tapped his finger to his chin, looking like he was in deep thought. “Maybe, because I called you a pig yesterday” he said.

Before Kiyumi could yell at him, Chimari and Kenji came into the scene, worry on their faces. “What happened?” Chimari asked. Hajin pointed at Kiyumi. “Ask her” he demanded. Chimari glanced at Kiyumi. Kiyumi just shrugged her shoulders. “All I did was wake him up” she explained. “Did you forget to mention that you woke me up by stabbing me with a stick” he demanded. Chimari shook her head in shame. “We are old enough not to fight about such foolish things, as well as poking people” she said, looking at Kiyumi.

“I was trying to have some fun” Kiyumi defended. Chimari held up a hand to Kiyumi. “Enough. We have to get going. Pack up you stuff, and then we’ll head off” Chimari ordered, as she began to put her stuff away. Kiyumi obeyed, but stuck her tongue out at Hajin the whole entire time. Hajin just glared at Kiyumi.

“You guys are acting like kids” Kenji said. Kiyumi huffed, and Hajin grunted. Chimari sighed. “Done” she asked. When everyone nodded, she smiled. “Then, let’s go” she said. A few minutes after walking through the forest, Kiyumi stared to talk to Hajin, forgetting their dispute a few minutes ago. “Who put your sister in charge?” Hajin asked Kiyumi. Kiyumi just shrugged. “She has really good leadership, so I guess she is just used to being in charge.” She said. “I heard that” Chimari said. Kiyumi tensed. Hajin stared at Kiyumi for a second.

“Why so tense?” Hajin asked. “Chimari is going to get back at me for talking about her behind her back, I just know it” Kiyumi whispered. “Why do you care? It’s not like she can hurt you” he said. Kiyumi shook her head. “You don’t know Chimari as well as I do. She can be a Devil child when she wants to. Trust me, you don’t want to get on her bad side” she whispered.

Hajin felt chills go through his body. “I think I already am” he shuddered. Kiyumi and Hajin walked silently for the rest of the day.

“You’re really good at scaring them. How did you learn to do that?” Kenji asked. Chimari grinned and shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. Just a given talent, I guess” she said. “How much longer till we get to Sanzo?” Kenji said, changing the subject. “We will reach there tomorrow, I think. If we keep walking until we reach the next village, then I am pretty sure that we will be there by tomorrow” she said.

“Wow, she is smart” he thought.

When they reach the next village…..

“We are here” Chimari yelled behind her. Kiyumi squealed and Hajin cheered. People in the village just stared at them. Chimari blushed in embarrassment. “We aren’t in Sanzo. We are just in the village close to Sanzo” Kenji explained to them, hoping they would stop making so much noise. Kiyumi complained, and Hajin groaned.

Chimari rubbed her temple. “At least we are almost there” she thought. They stopped at an Inn called the Maple Inn. “I like the name” Chimari thought. Kiyumi squealed. “We are going to finally sleep in a bed” she shrieked. Chimari covered her head. “Enough” Kenji said sternly. Kiyumi squealed and put her hand on her mouth, attempting to stop herself from squealing.

They bought two rooms and walked to their rooms. They were so tired, that they didn’t care that they had fallen on the stairs three times, which would leave bruises later. They fell asleep instantly, ignoring the beautiful rooms that they had gotten.
