Chapter 1
My life

The sun hit my face, lighting up my dirty face. My face was dirty, from working in the castle gardens the other day, and I sore all over. I didn’t want to get up, but then I would be in deep, deep, deep trouble. I had to get up.

I slowly sat up, flipped over my covers, and swung my feet onto the floorboards. I flinched as my feet hit the cold floor. It was soothing, but I did not welcome it. I hated the cold. I got up slowly, and walked over to my closet. I picked out a simple blue dress and a white apron.

I walked over to my mirror. I was satisfied with how I looked. I looked like I was supposed to look, a simple maid working for the castle. I sighed with relief. I had everything I wanted in life, except children and a husband, that won’t happen for a long time.

I hurriedly ran down my stairs and out the door. I stopped as I reached the gate. I forgot to lock the door. I turned back and locked my door. I turned to hurry to the castle, but ran into somebody. I landed on the ground. “I’m sorry” I said, hurriedly. I got up quickly.

“No problem. I just came to pick you up” a boy’s voice said. I looked up from my dirty outfit, and into the prince’s face. He was smiling. I grinned. “Same old Prince” I murmured. “Hey! I told you to call me Liam!” he hissed. I giggled. I loved to make him angry. “I’m sorry, prince” I teased. His face turned red from anger.

“I’m just teasing you” I giggled. He grinned. “Good, I wouldn’t want my best friend to call me “Prince” all the time” he said. I shook my head. “It’s not possible. I can not be your friend. It’s already bad enough that I am your friend” I said. I was right, or so I thought.

Liam frowned. “Not true. My mother and father understand. They know you’re my best friend, they are actually happy about it” he said. I laughed. “That’s because I am the only person you’ll talk to, besides you’re the prince. I am not supposed to even talk to you, and I’m your best friend!” I laughed. The bells chimed, and echoed throughout my ears. I covered my ears.

“I hate those bells” I hissed. Liam laughed and nodded. I grinned. “I thought you were supposed to get me a ride, your royal highness” I giggled. I curtsied, showing him that I was a servant, not a friend. He frowned. I loved how he frowned, it always made me laugh. I almost laughed out loud, but held it in. He soon realized that I was not going to take it back, and sighed. “I am not the Prince when I am talking to you, I am your friend. When will you actually acknowledge that?” he asked. I shook my head. “Probably never” I said.

He was about to protest, but I ran past him. “Sorry!! I’m already late!! Gotta go!” I yelled. He looked angry when I looked back. I grinned. I loved making him angry. In a matter of minutes, I reached the castle. I smiled. I loved the castle. It looked like it reached the clouds. I loved how it was white, but decorated with green ribbons. I only had a minute to look at the castle, and then ran to the cook building.

We had our own building, so that no one could enter besides the servants. I was one, and I was also a cook. I was mostly a maid, though. I loved my job. Many girls my age would love to live in a castle, be married to a Prince, but I would simply like working in a castle, and marrying who I please. Yes, I was a simple girl, with simple dreams.

A bell rang as I enter the kitchen. It was a mess. I was shocked. It never was a mess. Yes, we always cook, but we also always cleaned. I felt like screaming. A not much older woman glanced at me and smiled. “We are entirely hopeless without you” she said. The other maids and cooks nodded. I sighed.

“Leave the cleaning to me, and get back to cooking” I ordered. Yes, I was the cleaner half the time, but I loved it. No, I wasn’t one of those people who loved the room to be spotless, but I did like it to be clean and organized. I started with the dishes, and continued on. I finally finished, after two hours of cleaning. I sighed, and wiped the sweat off of my face.

“You just love cleaning, don’t you” Liam said. I turned around and smiled. “You bet” I said. He laughed. “You’re the weirdest girl I have ever met” he said. I giggled. “I am basically the only girl you have met, besides family” I laughed. He frowned. “I have too met other women” he said sternly. I laughed even harder. “Yes, you have met other women, but you haven’t talked to them” I giggled. His face softened and soon he was laughing to.

“I see again that you have proved to be Liam’s best friend” a woman’s voice said. I stood up strait and curtsied to the Queen. The Queen smiled. “I told you not to curtsy to me, Brooke” she said. I hesitated. I felt weird talking to the Prince, I felt even weirder talking to his parents. “It is my duty as your servant, your majesty” I said. She frowned. “I would like to be called Rose, little Brooke” she said. I laughed. “I am sorry your majesty, but I cannot. I am just a servant, nothing else” I laughed. I know exactly where Liam had gotten his traits from.

“Can you call me by my name, then?” a manly voice said. I gasped. I bowed in respect. “I am honored to be in your presence, your royal highness” I got out. The King’s eyes glowed with laughter. I knew he wouldn’t laugh. He had stopped laughing after his dear daughter died. I missed her very much. “Please, no formalities” he said. I shook my head. “I’d rather call you your highness than call you Brian” I said. He grunted. “Just like you to say that” he sighed. I giggled. “Just doing my job” I said. He grinned. “I would like to speak to you, alone” he said sternly. I nodded. “Goodbye” I said to the Queen and Liam.

We walked towards the rose garden, the exact one I had worked on the other day. He suddenly turned around. “I have to tell you something” he said. I saw something move in the shadows. “You are not a simple commoner” I looked over his shoulder, hoping to see the person hiding in the shadows. “You were not abandoned when you were 5, only given away until a certain age” I could tell he was talking to me, but my attention laid in the shadows behind him. “You are a princess” he said clearly. My mind turned to mush as I heard him say those words. My attention turned back towards the King. I stared into his light blue eyes. “Yes, it is true” a voice said. I turned my attention back to the shadows.

A man stepped out, covered in an outfit that was gold and silver. Another King, I concluded. “You are my daughter. You are Brooke, Princess of Hadacar” he said. I shook my head violently, letting my tears go freely. “I am not a princess!!” I screamed. I ran. I ran to the only place I could feel at home, at my house. I fumbled with the keys, but it fell out of my trembling hands. I tried to grab it, but the door opened before I could. I looked up, and met the beautiful green eyes I wanted to see so desperately. I threw myself at Liam.

“It’s ok. You can tell me everything” he whispered in my ear. I shook my head. I quickly let go of him, and pushed him. I didn’t even wait for his reaction, and ran to my room. I tried to find a brown bag. I finally found my Sapphire bag and put a book, a map, money, and a picture of me and Liam when we were kids. I quickly got another bag and put some cloths, my brush, shoes, and coats in. I quickly ran down the stairs, and ran into Liam.

“Where are you going?” he asked, worriedly.

“I am leaving” I said.

The romance is kinda there, just not big yet. I worked on this for 2 days, you better like it!! Ok, Brooke is 16, that will come later. She was abandoned when she was 5, or so she thinks. He has blondish hair, and lives a normal life. Besides the fact that her best friend is a Prince. The rest will come in the next chapter or so. If you have any questions, put it in your comment. Also, comment!! Thank you for reading!!
