I really like the way you've colored the lady's hair, and for some reason, I've just now noticed how marvelous his nose is. Look at it. The line of the bridge, oh... Simply fantastic.

Alas, I have no suggestions. I'd be hesitant to make a background too busy in any case, lest you risk taking the focus off the point of this image, which is a very internal thing as opposed to external.
I guess a formation of soldiers and knights behind them would probably be best. Everyone's thankful for their safe return and that sort of junk, but the guy's seen things that has left him just a bit off kilter for a bit.
