Description

So here's my homework idea for my first assignment in my LAST COLLEGE ART CLASS, WOOOOO!!! Sorry, it's a good feeling to be so close to done.

Anyways, this is an Advanced Drawing class with pretty much an open structure to draw whatever we feel, but it has to be Contemporary. Mind you, I'm not necessarily a fan of Contemporary Art because there's so much thinking involved and the demand to portray a message. Why can't we just draw things that look cool?

My girlfriend and I went to the Milwaukee Art Museum over the weekend to gain some inspiration. And after passing by some of the more current Contemporary works I kept getting the same idea. What is art? It's a question art students are asked from the moment they step foot in their first freshman class. I personally feel that Art is measure in your skill with a pencil/pen/brush/etc and how well you can either a)skillfully render life or b)create images from scratch but are still life like. That's the blunt and simple answer. I of course have exceptions and details that further extend my answer to "What is art?" but I don't think the comments section is the right place for that.

So, for this "piece" I wanted to juxtapose the image of the real world being distorted/abstract while the work of art is a clean rendered image of what we've come to know as beautiful art with just the opposite. The image on the right is the clean "real" world with an abstract/distorted image of a nude woman.

Again, there's so much more to talk about with this, but I'll save it for my class' critique. Enjoy!

I bloody Love this....! Seriously its so good the way you've portrayed the Juxtaposition (sp)

I like the left one.. It weirdly looks like the piece of art is actually more of a reality than reality itself.....if that makes any sense at all

this is a awesome idea! i love how you made the realistic painting side with abstract-ish settings.

I love how you've made an alternate art universe of your own! It's so original! And yeah. I wish we were told to draw anything that comes to mind for final projects. It'd make our jobs so much easier. Although we DID get to draw whatever we wanted as long as we were following the style of an artist that we got to pick for the assignment. I love when we're given some leeway. Well, nice job, and I hope critique goes well!

Very nice, very interesting. It is kind of question that comes up all the time, what is art and what isnt. It is like the old thing of what could be just a dot on a piece of paper or canvas to one person could be a deep and meaningful piece of art to another.

Shady Says:

Woah. Nice. I like this idea of "differences between worlds." =)

interesting idea, although I do not agree with your definition of what is art and how it should be critiqued. Are you in art college or just a regular college with art classes?
