The little mermaid that most of we know is the Disney version, but I wanted to show poeple how it really ended.
The true story from Hans Christian Andersen was that the mermaid died. She did never live happely ever after like the other princesses.
I tryed to show the mermaids death when she returns to the sea and turns into foam. Yes, the white stuff is foam. And in some myths the mermaids tears turns into pearls so the white dots in her hair is pearls :)

I've seen a more anime version that has her kill herself rather then the man she loved or something like that.
I prefer the disney version myself.

i really like this story! especially the ending/i'm guessing that the disneys version of this story ends well=boring in my opinion >>

I love the high contrast technique you did this in. the haze and fluidity of it really tells the story well. My one nitpick is that she is too clearly defined while the background is not, so it seems like she doesn't totally belong. Maybe fuzzing up the lines of her body near the foam would be the answer?
