Today was my second class for 2D Design and Color in college. We spent most of the day going over the basics of Photoshop. Granted I've only worked with Photoshop and a Mac once back when it was Version 6 but since I didn't really have to pay attention to a word she was saying I just went ahead and played around.

Wow! I used to hold Paintshop Pro in high regards compared to Photoshop but there really isn't a comparison anymore. The UI is just so much better, the tools are more intuitive and the out-of-box options are more varied. Plus on the school's equipment (24'' widescreen plasma monitors and 15x12-ish WACOMS) I can't even begin to describe how much easier it is to *see*!

For practice I sketched out some clouds and a basic landscape. It's not finished and I'm not sure I'll come back to it but I'm pretty proud of the sky. I was trying to mimic some Bob Ross videos I watched over the weekend and I think it payed off. I started out about three different ways and within 30 minutes I kinda found a good groove. This is kinda getting me excited about landscapes so I think I might be trying that more in the future.

Any tips and criticism are welcome.

I finished it up a little more for a class. We were supposed to fool around with Photoshop as an assignment. Go figure, I actually get ragged on by the teacher for *not* making an incomprehensible mess of filters and vector shapes. Yes, she wanted it to look like the work of someone who has no art training or knowledge of digital art software. Honestly, I don't understand how that supposed to help me if I already know how to do that. It's just a waste of my time. Besides, she never even mentioned any of that when she gave the assignment. Oh well...
