My grandpa listens to the oldies, so as we were driving back from a fishing trip I got to really analyzing the songs. I noticed a few things:
-Drumsets back then were made of GOD. That or the scratchier recordings just make them seem that much punchier. Either way, they beat the piss out of those things, and it's usually with the downbeat.
-Singing is often used for more than just the melody, oftentimes serving as an accompaniment or a pad...or sometimes both.
-The melody is almost always super-ultra-amazingly echoey, almost to the extent that you can't comprehend it. Sometimes beyond that extent.
...well, I'm not going anywhere with this. I just decided to try making a chiptune in this style, since I never heard it done before.
This was almost my Famicompo entry, but alas! By the time I could complete it, it was already 8 hours past the due date. Damn you Japan Time.

I see where you were trying to make that style. And yea, drums were made of god back then.
Anwway, you picked an awesome style to emulate. Though, its hard without all the vocal sounds and stuff to properly make an sixties song yaknow.
Great job

...Did I just catch wind of the 8-bit equivalent of a call-and-response chime? =)

Man, it's been a while since I listened to the radio... or to any Oldies music... but it's a matter of fact that nothing beats most oldies when compared to TODAY'S standards, and I can safely say that it's not nostalgia talking... Well, considering I was born in 1987.
