Time Is Running Out Ch.1

“It is time. The world is corrupted and the suffering must be put to an end,” A booming voice announced, bouncing off invisible walls, “Yael, your task is to allow the pure souls to Heaven and to lead the sinners to Hell. First, you must descend to Earth, as the duty requires, and awaken your powers in your new body. Then, you will complete your task. Others will be joining you soon.”
“Yes, I will do all I can to succeed, Lord.” Yael replied. “I will prepare for departure.” She raised her lowered head and nodded to the powerful figure, half hidden in the shadows, and left for her quarters in the palace.
Heaven, as the humans called it, was a district similar to their own world. There were differences, but it was certainly recognizable. The Pure would pass through marble gates and be assigned a house with an adopted family. These makeshift families never knew each other in their previous lives, because it was forbidden; Heaven was supposed to be a fresh start for the worthy. The homes were comfortable, food never spoiled, and their eternal lives were simple with no modern complications. People merely ate for pleasure, nothing ever got dirty and they never got tired.
The Corrupted, the sinners of the past world on Earth, were not so lucky. They would be dragged to the only other district in the afterlife, Hell. This section of the city was walled off and completely isolated from the rest of the city. The residents lived in dark, damp cells and slept on cold, hard mats. They could get tired. They could get dirty and hungry. They could die. No one could escape and the only visitors were the ones who brought them there and the servants who took care of them; until they were executed, that is. They passed through gates, but they were not made of marble.
The whole place resembled an ancient Greek city, with one large sanctuary to worship the God. He wasn’t exactly like anyone had imagined, but he was similar to the God of the many religions practiced on Earth and was accepted by the people. He had a large palace with impossibly tall pillars and gorgeous gardens filled with exotic creatures never seen before. Many citizens took on jobs similar to the ones of their past, but the purest worked for the Lord Himself. He only had a few personal servants, and they never left His side, until now. Why? Because the end of the world had just begun.
