Ulysses Sam Grant (U. S. Grant) was supposedly a drunkard, but actually was a very capable general, as he demonstrated at Vicksburg. Although he screwed up in the beginning versus Robert E. Lee, he realized that the old war tactics and style had to be scrapped in favor for the ones that were later used in World War I.
