Crash and Burn

It started out alright.
My friends and I,
we all laughed,
and we all joked.

“We’re finally seniors!”
we exclaimed,
only to be shot down
by that old English teacher.

We made plans for parties and fun,
wanting to celebrate the news.
We were seniors
and we were going to celebrate appropriately.

Summer came.
I was officially a senior,
and it felt good.
My spirit was flying high, that is until…

…I noticed all of the forms I had to fill out:
scholarships, applications, among other things.
I felt my spirit crash and burn.
My senior year seems no longer like all fun and games.
