It was one of those feelings. The feeling of dread. the feeling you get when you're standing on the edge of a cliff, ready to jump and commit your death.
Cassius walked beside Jasper, who had a deep sense of seriousness across his hard face. He didn't seem a bit welcoming now. He had the urge to go run to the nearest corner and remain tucked in tightly, to be prepared for whatever came.
"J-Jasper?" he whimpered. There was no reply. "where are we going?"
"I have to show you something." he said, without even returning a glance.
Cassius stiffened, suddenly the air felt cold. They were turning into a dark hallway now, and very few dimly-lit lights hung on the ceiling. There was a strange combination of smells; antiseptic and mold. It smelled like the laboratory, where he was born. It was not at all comforting.
They turned many corners, deeper through the tunnels, finding his way back on his own would be difficult. Every once and awhile he would here the clanging of metals, or the white noise of buzzing machinery.
He was about to turn tail and head back, until finally Jasper stopped. They were in a corridor, and two sides were lined with caged bars running from the high ceiling to the dusty floor.
Jasper gestured to one cage on the left. Suddenly the room felt claustrophobic.
Cas squinted through the darkness, he couldn't see the wall on the other side of the bars. But as his eyes adjusted he could see two blue lights from away. no, they seemed more like a pair of eyes. Purring, no, heavy breathing came from the eyes direction. It echoed off the walls. The breathing was incredibly raspy, like trying to breathe through steel wool.
Then as quick as lightning, it lunged through the dark, straight for where they were standing. A screech filled the air, like fingernails on a chalkboard. Claws thrashed through the bars, which grasped his coat. Cassius fell backwards, scrambling away from the screaming and claws trying to escape from within.
Cassius could hear is heartbeat, his eyes bulge from his scull. As the screaming continued, he got caught his breath and observed what was the blue eyes within the cage bars. It was terrifying.
what looked like what used to be a human body, was cut open in most places, filled with mechanical devices and an arrangement of tubes and wires. its arms were gone and sewed, but a huge mechanical structure resembling wings sprouted from its back. the claws were in fact the tips of the wings, which demoniacally were the hands of a human. It no longer had a face, but metallic skull with the two piercing blue lights shining from within. and against the light, he could see fresh blood seeming from its cracks.
"this," Jasper spoke, "is what humans are. What they create, and what monsters they truly are."
He was talking through the cries, which almost sounded mournful. The monster, whatever it was, had its nails inches from his face, but couldn't reach. Jasper didn't flinch.
"he broke through a recently discovered laboratory, and had to seize this experiment. We will be putting an end to its misery very soon."
He gave a glance to Cassius, who was still panting, scarred by these images.
"Humans are evil. They defy god's will in every way, trying to create new ways to destroy each other, and whatever stands around them. They almost destroyed the earth, if they hadn't killed themselves and were killed by natures wrath. Yet, they still haven't learned from the Apocalypse. Now do you get it Cassius, why I hate humans?"
Cas didn't reply. he was speechless.
