I do mine a little differently though, like you put two points, right/
and than, I just click anywhere on the line, and it adds a anchor point, and if I want to stroke it, than I just right click, than click on stroke path.
and than, [Still selected as the pen tool] I press the 'enter' button, and it clears the pen thingy xD [NOT the stroke ]
