This was my Mother's Day present for...guess who...my mother. She liked the last picture I did. She loved the detail and she wanted me to do something similar only with a creature that lives on our farm. Drawing a horse, dog, or cat would have been too predictable. She hates the coyotes because of the threat they pose to the colts. She hates groundhogs, mice, rats and snakes. I'm pretty sure her run-ins with foxes as a child wouldn't make drawing them very prudent. So I began to think, "Now what's left that lives on the farm, she doesn't dislike and we are fond of seeing or watching?" And it hit me. She likes the bats, the owls, and the hawks and eagles because they eat all of the small vermin.

And I chose an eagle because of their majestic appearance. And as vicious as they can sometimes be, they are busy, and caring mothers when they have a roost full of little ones. I referenced this eagle off a drawing that did titled The Eagle. The image certainly stuck. The eagle had a majestic and purposeful appearance and yet the little Alf Alfa feather sticking up kind of reminds me of my mom's quirkiness, and so it kind of fit.

Other references to mothers are featured in this as well. The word, "MOM" appears in this drawing. Also within the "O" of "MOM" is the earth referencing to Mother Earth. Don't ask why it's surrounded by electricity, it's just for detail. An embryo is dying in a fake womb because of the lack of a mother.

Black and White Masses are featured in a conflict at the bottom. The factory-looking-assembly-line thing to the right of the spindle-halo I kind of tied in with the attempt of the artificial birth of the embryo. Kind of like a factory for fetuses. Don't ask.

~~~Edit~~~
Wow, this is a real surprise! Thank you SolsticeCaldwell for the feature. And many thanks to Klaora for suggesting my drawing.
I know 99.9% of the time, I try to feature Craftsmanship pieces, but when this piece was suggested to me, I had to make an exception.
Not only is this an absolutely stunning ink piece - loaded with detail, but is also loaded with pre-planning and hidden personal meaning. Any piece riddled with actual thought of course gets an extra 30 bonus points from my standpoint and, if well-executed as this to boot, almost automatically feature-worthy in my book.
In short: This is a gorgeous piece with heart and it is well-deserving of much love.
Many thanks to for suggesting this beautiful piece and adds that this piece "deserves at least a chance at being featured as it is a piece of work that puts 'Amazing' as an understatement. There will never be enough time in the world to sift through the vast amount of detail on this piece. And if this one does not appeal to you, I urge that you view others of his gallery."
This is so cool! I love it :)
Klaora Says:
Your details have always astounded me. It always seems that you work too long and too hard and don't get enough appreciation for your work.
Not only that, but it's in ink, where's there's a lot of room for error and if you mess up, well, that's too bad. Your choice of medium just adds to my amazement.
I've nothing more to say than: wow.
