"
We find sunsets so captivating because the clouds become guardians; the vibrant colors we see are the spirits of our fallen comrades and those we love as they're carried into Wiescheran'nyat. If we stay to watch night fall, then we're witnessing the safely guided souls settle into the heavens as the stars."
"What happens to them then, Ka'meos?"
"
They watch the rest of time drift serenely by, waiting for the hour that we shall join them in the endless cosmos."
--Katadikaomenos, and Sielu
This is another work I've had for awhile. I'd been working on it all of January, but ended up hitting a dead end not too much further from here. This is Ka'meos, my only Razelite, and thus far the only fully sentient one on Wieraiden. He wasn't always so, though.
His intellect and verbal coherence comes from his state bound into a pact with a small girl, which he met under unusual circumstances. The girl, Sielu, is a Cierdan'ki'to--a child said to be blessed by the star god, Caelarius--and has as such been pursued by those intent to study and utilize/exploit her gifts for a majority of her life. During one such incident she stumbled upon a dying Razelite (hence the broken horn).
As is relatively typical of children, she saw death as a very bad thing, and, regardless of this creature's nature, or what might have happened, did not want him to die. Cierdan'ki'to are quite special. When a Cierdan'ki'to child desires something strongly enough, that blessing, in some fashion, will make it be. Sielu was so intent against the Razelite's death that she preserved his life with a direct connection between his energy and hers.
With his soul anchored to his body, and said body forced to continue functioning, he, with a little turbulence at first, became the child's guardian. One will never see these two particularly far apart--one is always within sensory range of the other--and that is for the sole purpose that if the bond is stretched beyond functioning strain, Sielu's energy will get lost along the way, steadily weakening her until she sinks into a sleeping illness, and Ka'meos will begin to decay and lose the advanced mental faculties set upon him by the pact.
It's so bright and sunshiny, neh?

Yeah, long-winded explanation for a big beastie that has a "higher" intelligence and can talk. Shush. I should be sleeping right now.
Katadikaomenos is mine. His name kind of belongs to Greek, however the character translation was slightly botched on my part and one letter is wrong. Can't remember what. Doesn't matter. He's mine. D: Steal and you will suffer a horrible doom consigned to the pit of rabid wolverines and "goth" Paris Hilton.
