Arias---Chapter 2---Escape
Gusts of wind lashed out everywhere as the monstrous bird gained height, and I kept my eyes tightly together, in my mind I was saying repeatedly, as if a chant ‘, Just a dream, Just a dream, Just a dream….’ The bird gave one final jump off the ground with its only leg, and then blasted off into the sky. I squirmed in the birds grip, and opened one eye, and spotted the fast moving ground. The bird was already at a high altitude, and I then froze, then a dreadful picture came to my mind. A broken human figure laying among the expanses of grass. I curled up, now wishing the monster would swoop down and drop me near a door that would take me home. Of course, that was the last thing that would happen. This was real, and this bird was obviously going to eat me, or feed me to its monster babies. Suddenly, the bird swooped near the cliff, and it was facing towards a large cave at the side of the large hill. It was my chance to shake loose of it’s powerful grip, but it wouldn’t let go of a potential meal. It screeched out a high pinched, deformed call that made my ear drums ring painfully for several moments. I suddenly was flying through the air to the cave. I was thrown. I tried to fall downward, not towards the cave, but there simply wasn’t enough time. I braced myself for the impact, as I rolled into the cave. I sat up, clenching my teeth in pain, as I clutched my shoulder that felt broken. There was only silence, and I let out a sigh of relief. Nothing here….
My moment of relief was broken by a screech much like the monster bird’s, but only more high pitched, and quieter. Baby monster birds. I looked towards the entrance that looked so far away, almost like a light that signified the path to freedom from doom. I then saw glowing red round shapes in the darkness, half a dozen. I tried to crawl towards the light, but my right shoulder sent an enormous pain throughout my whole body. It was the most painful thing that ever happened to me, as a girl that was always good at avoiding the hospital her whole life, as a girl that was supposedly great in the art of being seemingly perfect in other people’s minds, by never getting in trouble, being scar less, and getting good report cards. For me, this moment of hopelessness was pitiful for someone like me. Here, it is filled with real danger, not the danger of Earth, such as the miniscule chance of getting hit by a car, or getting infected by a horrible disease, to even getting punched in the face and getting a nose bleed. All those things only happen to very few, here, danger was everywhere. I then stared horrified at the giant baby birds that were coming towards me. Earth, the place that you probably won’t be eaten by giant three eyed baby birds. I then curled up, attempting to give up. The mother bird was probably nearby the cave, and ready to catch me once again if I escape. I then said “, No ,” I then stumbled to my feet, and the baby birds screeched, and came closer from the endless length of the cave. I lifted up a foot, and tore off my sneaker, and threw it towards the baby birds as a distraction, and then ran towards the cave, with only one shoe. I heard the birds squeak in glee, thinking the shoe was food. I grinned, as I got near the edge of the cave, the sunlight reaching me. “ Thank me for not getting new shoes for a month,” The only real reason why the birds fell for the distraction was because these were old, smelly shoes, though no one at school noticed. I peered into the grasslands, and looked back, the birds too caught in a fight over the shoe to notice that it was not food. I closed my eyes for a moment, then jumped. The fall was about 15 feet, but I landed on three limbs, my feet, and my good arm, and absorbed the impact. I think glanced around into the cloud filled skies, and saw the bird in the distance, probably looking for food for itself. I then crossed my arms. There was no where to hide.
