It's been an awfully long time since I last painted a full painting. The reason has been that I spent the last year on my master thesis, and that I had few visual ideas that seemed worth spending five hours on in front of a canvas. Now, however, I had one.

Inspired by my two-week trip along the northeast coast of the US, this painting gathers the impressions I had of Manhattan in the four days I staid there. Manhattan is a completely crazy place, unlike anything I've seen before. Berlin or London work totally different, and even the Ruhr valley (which can match NYC's inhabitant number) is much more spread-out and tranquile. The extreme density and concentration of "urbanity" in Manhattan pushes the concept of a "city" to its limits, in my opinion. It is not a place I want to live, but it is very interesting to look at.

Btw, I was living in Secaucus, NJ for those few days.
