This is a thing that's been in my head for quite a while. I drew it in RSVP pen on 11" x 15" bristol, then painted over it in gouache and watercolor. I wanted to just do an underpainting but my hand didn't want to stop adding different colors. It was fun to be sloppy. Don't get me wrong, I adore detail but my hand wanted to keep things loose, so... *shrugs* I went with it. I was going to go back in and add more detail, but I ended up liking the looser look, so that was that.
Bear in mind it's just a symbolic thing that I know couldn't possibly exist, what without a face and all. It's just a practice piece, too - a warm-up for my art trades and other art still to come.

As you knoe, I can't resist earthtones... And the loose look in this one is surpricingly effective. It gives it a ghosthly feel. Maybe it's an old hyenaspirit that has decided to return to the savannah and visit the pack... create some havock in a human village and scare a few lions.... Or maybe he just wants to see his homeland again? Who knows?

The loose look really adds a nice feeling on it! You have such great animal anatomy.

From my view I think this has awesome detail. Especially in the neck fur & skull. & with those kind of sandy colors, it gives the image a nice dry yet dirty look =)

I love how this looks all in all, its pretty strange & things that are put onto paper that were created by a "random thought" or "dream" makes it even more worth looking at
