Played my part

Played my part

I still love you my son,
you fit perfectly in the
crook of my arms, though
the sadness of those short
lived days I had to overcome.

Now I have to watch
you live your life
in the protection of others,
caring for you better than
the dreams I couldn't catch.

You are still as perfect
as the day you were born,
strong and healthier, surviving
more than any other
child could ever get.

I won't be there at all,
for your first day of school,
for your first girlfriend,
for your first heartbreak
or to catch you when you fall.

But you are still in my heart,
As connected as the day
You were born.
I love you my son,
And as a mom, I played my part.

So I've been inspired to write lately, and I thought of my stepsister, who had to give up her son for adoption, and how it really affected her.

This is for all you mothers who chose the best thing for your child, and being a real mom.

much love,
Tiomara

It takes a powerful woman to be able know what's best for their child and still love them. A truly inspiring piece Mara. Keep up the fantastic work.
